Title: Layout creator image folder same as mll folder?
Post by: matabhaine on March 15, 2013, 06:52:35 am
I would like to know if the image that you create when designing your own layout should be in the same folder as the mll file, I have given them the same name to use multiple layout per emulator but for a long while the images would not show up. Don't want to copy and paste my png file into every folder till it shows up.

They should be in a folder with the same name as the mll file.

IIRC, the layout editor saved my mll files to that same folder after that and I had to copy and paste the layout file back into the main layout directory.
It was probably just that Windows was navigating to that folder when I typed the name of the layout, but I didn't pick up on it.

You actually layout folder and mll should be kept separate.
If your mll file is LAYOUT 1, the actually folder containing the artwork should be LAYOUT 1.

Today I found out also, if you set up your layout and call it "X" but you want to rename it, you can simply rename the mll and folder and it will still work.
This helps me a ton when I'm doing multiple console emulators for people. I have a layout called MAME in my set up, so I can't save another as MAME.
But when I zip the file I can simply rename the emulator for the customer. I don't need to re-do the layout.

This confirms what I was on the verge of discovering last night, so a thank you for confirming my suspicions, you've saved me a lot more experimenting.
