Title: Need Help on IPAD (3) System

I have an Ipad 3 and need to iether find out the password or just reset it to factory settings.

Is there a way or my Ipad is a gonner ?

ummm I'm not one to judge but I am curious. >:D ..... did this fall off the back of a truck?

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4374855?start=0&tstart=0   check this out.   the third post down has a link on how to restore to recovery mode then you can restore it to factory settings... but unless you figure out the code you will probably lose anything on it!

When I get it back from the Detective who had it for 4 weeks and they could not find the passcode.

I wish we can find out the passcode for it so it might give us some clues.

When I do get it back, I will try some password that I think that is used. I found out it's only 4 digits.

Worst comes to worst, if I can't get into it, I will have to reset it to factory default and at least that way, it won't be paperweight.

Thanks for the link. I will try that last after I get tired of guessing the passcode.

Try names like john, paul, pete, etc there are only 9999 possible combinations,  I know that it will lock up for a while after 6 incorrect attempts,  I will take a bet on 3 weeks to break the code.  Hopefully they haven't enabled the wipe after 10 incorrect attempts.

I'm doing about 3 of these a week now... staff keep handing them back in without resetting them, and of course; once handed in; code is forgotten instantly... Users really do have a format button!! Lol, anyway that's off track, as has been said; iPad will need to be restored... Link is good info, but if you get stuck; drop me a PM, describe where you're at in as much detail as you can and I'll do my best to guide you through :)

thnx MD, once I get it back from the Detective (they could not get thru). I rather have a working fresh Ipad if I have to, but if I can guess the pword, datas might have some clues to what we're looking for.

Question, is it true that iPAD (1,2,3) ONLY HAS 4 CHARACTERS for password ? not less not more ?

lock screen code is only 4 characters yes.  Passwords are a completely different beast though.
