Title: New guy here. Here's my first attempt
Post by: XxSparkyxX on March 09, 2013, 09:36:36 pm
I've decided to build a bar top cabinet for me and my boys to play. I'm keeping it kinda simple. Just using a xbox 360 with a couple mad catz fight sticks and a 24" lcd. I think I want to go old school and finish it off pac man style. Here's what I have so far

I'm thinking painting it with black plasti dip and applying pac man graphics. Opinions?

I like it.
Not sure what plasti dip is, but I am looking forward to seeing this project take shape.

Thanks. Plasti dip is like a rubber spray paint. Sticks to almost anything. I recently sprayed my winter rims with them and they hold up really nice. I live in Toronto, by the way. Lots of snow this year. This paint is very good at hiding blemishes. YouTube it. Neat stuff. Guys paint their whole cars with this stuff. I'm not a cabinet maker so this stuff would be very forgiving

Sure will.
And my apologies for not welcoming you to the board, and this most satisfying (although expensive) hobby we call Arcade.

Welcome aboard, my friend from the north!

Slowly getting there. Not a bar top anymore. Slow process with work and small kids. Up and running before prepping for paint. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/22/uvuvapyp.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/22/janupy5e.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/22/y9e6agy3.jpg)

Of course my 5 year old had to play a round of injustice. He's pretty good at it

the cab is looking pretty good. i dont think plasti dip is a good idea if you are going to lay graphics, in any case that the graphic doesnt lay properly and you have to lift it off the cabinet to re attempt the laying of the graphic, isn't there a chance the plasti can tear off?

i've been working on a MDF replica Fix-It Felix Jr. and painted it with Oil based paint (after about an hour of research i found this to be best) i got at Home Depot for about $20/gallon.

either way its just my 25cents on the topic of plasti dipping the cab. otherwise i love the idea of a bartop appearing to be a full stand up with actual cabinets below it, after seeing this i would like to make one with a mini fridge under it.

I have decided to get it painted for me. The fumes may be too much for my wife in the garage. The bottom cabinet is actually a sink cabinet from ikea. I just widened it to match my bar top. I have seen a couple with a fridge underneath. I like the idea. I decided to mount my computer speakers behind the screen so I wouldn't have to put speaker grills on the cabinet

I need an opinion... Considering black thru out the middle and carbon fiber vinyl   sides with red molding. Too plain? Still going to do a lit up marquee and a coin door.

Update: my cabinet is ready for paint. Decided to go black lacquer with red trim on the edges. I'm still deciding on a marquee and whether or not I will do side art. Here's a pic of my son's creation while we wait for paint. (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/17/urubudaq.jpg)

I'm glad you turned this into an upright (that bartop would have been HUUUUGE).

Welcome to the club!
