Title: Coin Push emulator
Post by: brihyn on March 07, 2013, 08:01:32 am
This may be a weird question, but is anyone aware of a good Coin Push emulator? I would love to add the Elvis coin pusher as an option on the mame cabinet. Every time we go to Dave and Busters, the wife gets addicted to that game, so it'd be a fun option for her to play. I just haven't found anything out there in my quick google.

Don't know about mame, but I remember seeing an app on an iPad.  Think its called Coin Dozer.  I personally didn't like the look, but the game might entertain your wife for a bit.  There are probably other similar apps, maybe better.

Yeah, that game was a bit addictive for both of us...we both made it through the all of the various "puzzles" the game offered. I'm currently sitting with a bank of 50,000 coins.

I think the fun would be completely gone without the physical aspect of the coin pusher.

Not proud to say it, but I can verify that it is indeed possible to have fun playing it digitally.  I had Coin Dozer on the iphone and spent more time than I'd care to admit dropping coins.

I shamefully got totally hooked on the Sexy Reaction pachinko MAME rom a few years ago (not for the hentai but for the insane addiction to collecting little silver balls and hitting fever mode).  I can see how a video coin pusher could be appealing.

*slinks off to fire up some sexy reaction

Not to derail the thread, but I was wondering just the other day, with all of the nearly free and easy to use physics engines out there, why the heck aren't there any pachinko emulators?  I would have thought the Japanese folks would be all over that one (well, me too, actually).

When I was a kid, I would circle the coin pushers at the county fair waiting for someone to run out of money with a promising pile of quarters on the edge.  Nowadays they are too loaded down with extra weight to bother playing.  Worse yet, the state I live in now consider them gambling, so they're filled with tokens instead of quarters.  :'(

I'm looking into Box2d physics engine and was looking for a fun project to do. I think I found one :-) (Got a lot of projects going on- so I'll do research first. No promises!)

Awesome, I hope it goes somewhere.
Yeah, in theory, a digital coin pusher seems lame, and I thought that when my wife was hooked on Coin Dozer. But once I started playing it, yeah, totally hooked.
And I think part of the beauty of the Elvis one is the music that is on a neverending repeat. that would definitely have to be part of this.
And I just setup VP, and found a pretty cool pachinko machine emulated. Wife's been wanting a real one, but I never understood the game. Now I think I may have to someday buy one for the game/movie room.

Most nostalgic for me would be Tonka dozers pushing quarters.  ;)

Someone is selling plain looking home built coin pushers on ebay.
I see another project being added to my list.

Wow, that one brought back a flood of memories of childhood county fairs!
