Hi all,
Has anyone successfully gotten Street Fighter x Tekken working properly on Windows XP 64-bit? It seems to install and run fine, but it won't save. (GFWL is running fine and connects to the Games For Windows Live server). The game has also been updated through GFWL so it is the latest version.
I just get an error saying, "Cannot find saved data. Would you like to create new save data?". Yes/No. I select Yes and then get an error, "Failed to Save". And then it repeats the "Cannot find save data" message with the yes/no prompt. Endless loop! :timebomb:
I successfully ran this game on my Windows 7 64-bit system, and my Windows XP 32-bit OS, so I know my installation files are OK. But I'm having trouble on my Windows XP 64-bit system.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I am not alone in the world. I have the same problem and have not found an answer. I posted on the cap capcom unity forum without any luck. Hope this post generates some answers.

Same problem, no answer.

Could it be a file permissions issue?
I would check around to find out where the game is supposed to save and manually make a save file. You can probably download one off the net.
Also if there is an existing file, right-click on it and make sure it isn't set to read only.
-
I'd be interested in seeing those links on the Capcom forums. Can you guys paste them below please?
As for the file permissions: I thought it was the same thing. I tried on my last install and can't recall exactly what I did to change the write access, but it didn't work. I also grabbed my save files from my PC with the Windows 7 64-bit OS and it didn't help either.
Last but not least I tried NOT connecting to GFWL (very simple to do, see video below)

Also, can anyone suggest a program that logs exactly what a program is doing in the background. I'd like to figure out what's going on while the program is running and why is failing on the 64-bit version of XP only.
Thanks!

Microsoft has a ton of tools that are usually included with a visual studio suite. Spy++ ddespy, processviewer, ect...
-
Tried that too. It did not work. I even used a mount point to place the file on another drive. No dice. The program does not give enough info and windows does not log anything in the event viewer.

I was doing some research and came across a troubleshooting URL for this game:
http://guide4games.com/index.php/fixes/street-fighter-x-tekken-pc-crashes-crash-to-desktop-ctd-freezes-low-fps-games-for-windows-live-issues-connection-problem-errors-and-fixes (http://guide4games.com/index.php/fixes/street-fighter-x-tekken-pc-crashes-crash-to-desktop-ctd-freezes-low-fps-games-for-windows-live-issues-connection-problem-errors-and-fixes)
There were two things on there that caught my eye:
- Perhaps the game is writing to the wrong location? XP 32 and XP 64 are different. Maybe it should be installed without the (x86) in the directory structure? I will try this tonight.
32bit – C:\Program Files\
64bit – C:\Program Files (x86)\
- Running the game in compatibility with Windows XP SP3.
Food for thought.
edit: Also saw this: Street Fighter X Tekken isn’t working on Windows Vista and Problems – Fix
If you have installed the latest Windows Update and are experiencing problems running the game, you may need to install the following Vista update (KB971512): Click to download the update for Windows Vista (64-bit) (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=4390).

Process Monitor is the tool you seek:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx)
Once you start capturing, it will log huge amounts of info. Use filtering and process tree to get the info you need.
Best of luck!
-
Tried changing the install directory [removed the (x86)]. Didn't work.
Tried running the game in compatibility mode. Didn't work either.
I'm having trouble running the update fix to see if that helps. Can't seem to figure out how to apply .msu files. I read something about a standalone version of windows update, but I can't seem to get it to work.
Last but not least, I will mess around with the "Process Monitor" logging software, although I'm not quite sure what to look for. Anyone?

.msu files are for Vista and later.

Run Process Monitor and it will start capturing various events triggered by currently running processes - Registry and file access, network activity etc.
Start SFxT and reproduce the problem. Exit SFxT and stop capturing events in Process Monitor (Ctrl + E).
Check if SFxT executable spawns child processes during operation by viewing the process tree (Ctrl + T). Take note of all of them.
Open filtering (Ctrl + L) and start filtering the log by including only the executable(s) involved. Add the following condition:
"Process name" "is" "name_of_SFxT_executable_file.exe" then "Include"
Add additional child processes if there were any, and click "OK".
If the log is still too large, you can include only file operations (I assume that SFxT saves to disk, not to Windows Registry ??? ).
Open filtering again (Ctrl + L) and add additional conditions:
"Operation" "contains" "file" then "Include"
Look for anything suspicious in Result column - ACCESS DENIED etc.
Here's a link with some Process Monitor usage examples:

Has anyone been able to get any further with this?

Haven't had a chance to delve into it further. I did run a monitoring utility briefly (can't recall the name of it at the moment) and I saw a lot of "Access denied" in the .exe file for the game. Which isn't good I suspect.
I'm away on business at the moment. But I will resume once I get back. Any other programming gurus on board to help out?

I filled out a feedback request form over at Capcom. Below is what I posted. I'm hoping they can squash this annoying bug.
"Hi,
This game cannot save game data, at all, when using the Windows XP 64-bit version OS.
A more in depth explanation can be read here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130881.msg1340569.html#msg1340569 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130881.msg1340569.html#msg1340569)
Perhaps this crtitical fix can be added to the street-fighter-x-tekken-ver-2013 update?
As of now, a lot of us are dead in the water in getting this to run in our arcade cabinets. (Windows XP 64-bit is the OS of choice)
Thanks for listening!"

I'm guessing capcom is ignoring your feedback as they did mine.
-
Yes, sad but true. At this point I don't know where to turn. The least they could do is to send over a rep to respond on these forums.
D
-
You probably shot yourself in the foot mentioning arcade cabinets and this forum.
Even though it isn't true when you say you want to run the pc version of their arcade game in a cabinet, they probably think piracy. They want you to fork over 20k for a arcade cab after all. ;)
-
I think everyone here agrees that they are missing a HUGE market. I know a ton of people who would LOVE the game if it worked and would shell out the dough for a version that worked.
They would come a long way in repairing their negative image if they built an arcade machine at a trade show showcasing a WORKING SFIV game.

Did anyone try the new update that just got released on April 22nd, 2013? (Version 1.08 also know as the 2013 update everyone has been waiting for). I've only tried it on the 32 bit version but was curious to see if it corrected the XP 64 bit issue of not saving.
Read more about the patch here: http://shoryuken.com/2013/04/19/street-fighter-x-tekken-pc-1-08-patch-ver-2013-coming-april-22/ (http://shoryuken.com/2013/04/19/street-fighter-x-tekken-pc-1-08-patch-ver-2013-coming-april-22/)

Just tried it and it still does not save. :'(
-
I forgot to ask... Which version of Street Fighter x Tekken are you using? Mine is the GFWL version. I'm wondering if the same happens for the Steam version? Has anyone tried it?
D
-
Rockin (the non working) GFWL version here
-
I would try the Steam version but it's so freakin' expensive to take that gamble. It's something like $60 for the game including the DLC.

To follow up on this, I have tried contacting Capcom technical support, along with the developer, QLOC on this issue. I have not heard back from them and I am assuming they are unwilling to note that there is an issue.
So, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau:
Filed on : May 15 2013
Filed against :
Capcom U.S.A. Inc.
800 Concar Drive, Ste 300
San Mateo CA 94402
Complaint Description:
The software titled "Street Fighter x Tekken" (PC version) does not work with Windows XP (64-bit version only) They advertise on their box and all over the web that the mimimum system requirements are Windows XP. Minimum System Requirements: -OS: Windows XP/Vista/7 -Processor:Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8GHz / AMD Athlon II X2 250u -Memory: 1 Gb -Hard Drive:10 Gb free -Video Memory: 256 Mb -Video Card: nVidia GeForce 6600 GT / ATI Radeon X1600 -Sound Card: DirectX Compatible -DirectX: 9.0c
I have tried in good faith to contact both Capcom and the Developer to make them aware of the issue and have been ignored. I have posted about this issue on Capcom's forums and other users are having the same issue with the 64-bit version of Windows XP as well.
Read more here: http://www.capcom-unity.com/street_fighter/go/thread/view/7411/29109263/sfxt-pc-issues-and-requests?post_num=116#529618157 (http://www.capcom-unity.com/street_fighter/go/thread/view/7411/29109263/sfxt-pc-issues-and-requests?post_num=116#529618157)
and here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130881.msg1340569.html#msg1340569 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130881.msg1340569.html#msg1340569)
Your Desired Resolution:
I would like the issue addressed in a patch, or known workaround so that I (and the rest of the community) may enjoy the game as advertised. At the moment this is false advertising, as it should have indicated that it does not work with the 64-bit version. In addition, if a patch cannot be issued within the next 30 days, I would like a full refund of the purchased price. However, a fix MUST be released to correct the problem or I will strongly consider filing a class action lawsuit against Capcom.
This case will be reviewed by a complaint specialist at the Better Business Bureau, and then forwarded to the business for their response. It is our policy to allow the business 10 working days to respond to your complaint. You will be notified when the business has responded.
I'm at my witt's end with this. It's not right and we need to stand up to them. I suggest you all do the same to add validity to the claim.

It should not matter where you live. It only matters where the company is located. In this case, they are in California (CA) USA.

I would check around to find out where the game is supposed to save and manually make a save file. You can probably download one off the net.

Already tried this. Ran it on my Windows 7 64-bit system, saved the files. Copied them via USB drive to my arcade machine running Windows XP 64-bit. Didn't work.

Quick update: There is hope at the end of the tunnel. Capcom finally contacted me (after filing a complaint with the BBB). They are working with me to troubleshoot the issue (first step is to provide them a DXDIAG output on the Win XP 64-bit OS machine.
Stay tuned!

I just wanted to give you guys an update.
I responded back to Capcom (via their support link) after they contacted me. Here's what I wrote:

Attached are files related to not being able to run
SFxT with Windows XP 64-bit.
1) DxDiag 64 bit XP.txt
2) Screenshot 1.jpg
3) Screenshot 2.jpg
When first running the game, Screenshot 1 pops up.
If you select YES, then Screenshot 2 pops up. If you
select OK, then Screenshot 1 pops up. Never ending loop.
And they replied with:

Hello,
Thank you very much for the information you have provided. We're still looking into the matter and will update you once new information is available.

Fingers crossed. I will keep you guys posted on what happens next. :dunno
I suggest you all create tickets of your own to state that it doesn't work with Windows XP 64-bit. Here's the link: https://www.fuzeqna.com/capcomsupport/consumer/question.asp (https://www.fuzeqna.com/capcomsupport/consumer/question.asp)

Glad I didn't get round to buying this one now as I'm on xp64 too.
Do they actually state they support the OS though? I'd assume no modern games officially support it these days.
-
It just states Windows XP, which would lead the consumer to believe that it support all flavors including 32 bit and 64 bit. Just like Windows 7 would lead the consumer to believe that it works with all versions of Windows 7 (and it does, including 64-bit). So if anything it's false advertising, which they can be held accountable for in a class action law suit.
Minimum - OS: Windows XP
Recommended - OS: Windows Vista, 7
Based on the requirements listed, you probably would have purchased this, no? It SHOULD work after all. However, if you bought this game in a store and tried to return it, they would NOT let you since you opened the box. It's the store policy. If you argued that it did not work with Windows XP 64 bit, they would show you the side of the box and state that "it says it works" based on the listed minimum system requirements.
Something's wrong here, and it needs to get fixed.

I heard from Capcom again today. Wow. Looks like they are really on the case. I'll update this topic more as I hear from them.

Hello,
For clarification on our end, can you confirm that you have the required amount of hard drive space available for the game and save data? Have you also tried running the program as an administrator? We understand you may have done so already, and we apologize if we have missed that communication. Again thank you for your patience and cooperation as we investigate.

I hate to burst your optimistic bubble, but no it doesn't. It looks like they are reading from the typical troubleshooting script. Until the message mentions save states specifically in a non form-letter format, they are just stalling.
-
Any reply at all from Capcom is a positive thing. I got zero response before. Seems they seemed more cooperative once I filed a complaint with the BBB.

We're finally getting somewhere. For a couple of weeks there I had no response from tech support. In desperation, I posted (yet another request on their Capcom-Unity forums and the moderator there suggested that I contact Christopher, a Capcom employee.
He did get back to me via PM and said the following:
"I do apologize for the delay in response. I've reached out to the team, and they're currently still looking into the issue as they haven't been able to reproduce. I've asked for them to reach out to you through the open support ticket this week."
Do you think you guys can help out by posting your DXDiag output in text format here? Any info would help. Also, please list the Service pack you are using and specs of your system if possible.
Thanks!

No update on this yet?
I'm running XPx86 due to this, but would love to go back to x64...
Edit: trying to find a suitable video card to allow me to run Win 7 x64 instead..
