Title: Ipac 2 Terminals
Post by: Beaker on February 27, 2013, 11:24:55 am
Hi everyone!

Just a quick question about the Ipac 2.

As I intend to use two ultrastick 360 joysticks (USB) Can I use the joystick terminals (up,down, left, right) on the ipac 2 for extra buttons instead?

Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated! 😃

Pretty sure you should be able to do so with ease.

You will need to use the WinIPAC IPD programming utility from the Ultimarc site to re-assign the P1 & P2 UP, Down, Left & Right inputs to different keyboard inputs so as you can use them for other commands.

Info here: Ultimarc Winipac IPD (http://www.ultimarc.com/winipac_ipd.html)

Cheers boomstick!

So, by doing as you suggested it would seem possible to have 8 buttons per player using SW1 to SW 8 (street fighter & modern consoles)

2 pinball buttons per player using 1A,1B,2A,2B

8 admin buttons or less (not a fan of shift) using  player 1 and 2 joystick inputs.

Don't mean to come across stupid but am I on the right track?

That should certainly be feasable by reprogramming the IPAC2.

One other option you have within the winIPAC software is to program a SHIFT funtion for each input on the board.  This would allow you to have all admin buttons opperate as a shifted function of another standard input.  For example, you could set "TAB" to shifted P1 SW1, "ESCAPE" set to shifted P1 SW2 and "ENTER" set to shifted P1 SW3.  You can basically asign any key to any input or shifted input.  This lets you keep a clean CP without cluttering it up with admin buttons.

By default, P1 Start is setup as the shift button.  If you hold this down to enable the SHIFT feature, and press another key, for example, P1 SW1, you can have the IPAC send the programmed shifted keyboard output (eg TAB) rather than the non-shifted default output of L.Ctrl

Of course, you can always have dedicated admin buttons if you prefer, or a mix of both

Hope this helps

Edit: Just re-read your post "not a fan of shift inputs"

What do you need up to 8 admin buttons for? The IPAC has inputs for 1/2 Coin and 1/2 start.

All this is possible but you would not generally need dedicated connections for pinball buttons, just connect them to the same connections as standard buttons, assuming they are not used in the same game for different functions.

Beaker -- There is some overlap between MAME and the pinball functions -- see here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130438.msg1334733.html#msg1334733).

P1/P2 Start and P1/P2 Coin are, technically speaking, admin buttons.

If he adds Escape, Pause, Enter, Tab, Left Mouse and Right Mouse that's 10.

It may end up looking like a "bag of skittles" (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showpost.php?p=173796&postcount=10) if he adds too many, but it's up to OP to avoid that.  :duckhunt
