Title: I have a design problem with the control panel lid opening up.

Please take a look at the picture I have included.

The problem is where the pivot point is for the the control panel lid when it is opened. It needs to be where it shows in the image, so that it can rotate up to 90 degrees vertical when fully opened. The problem is the hinges need to be attached to the back of the board labeled control panel front.

Basically I am wondering if there are any hinges that will allow me to basically lift and pivot the lid as it opens, so that it clears the sides? This is the only solution I can think of other then bringing the control panel front, up flush to the pivot points, but that would severely hurt the look of the machine.

Because another option would be to avoid hinges altogether and use something like roller catches for mounting it instead.

I never thought of using roller catches. Would the lit stay put during vigorous gaming using those latches?

do those hinges lift up and away?

Post by: yaksplat on February 26, 2013, 08:44:34 am: Inset hinges do lift up and out. And they're adjustable to allow you to tweak them to your application. I had a panel set up similarly to yours and I was able to adjust it so it cleared the overlap.

I would think so, although it probably depends on your definitio of "vigorous".

FWIW, I've been experimenting with them on a single player controller and haven't had any issues with anything coming loose. The only hurdle I've found with them is getting them properly lined up when doing the initial mounting.
