Title: For twin stick games, can one stick be digital and the other analog?
Post by: Dcpmark on February 21, 2013, 10:51:32 am
Designing a new CP, and I'm thinking about dropping in an analog flight stick in the middle that would double as a top-fire right joystick for BattleZone or a right joystick for Robotron. Obviously the left stick (Player 1) would be a standard joystick.

Two questions: can analog joysticks be used for games like BattleZone successfully? Is it possible to combine digital and analog sticks like this for certain games, and if so, what special steps do I have to take to make it happen?

Thanks in advance.

It can be done.  You just have to set the deadzone and engage zones in MAME to use an analog joystick for digital input.  It will probably feel pretty odd mixing the two though.

Thanks! Is that method an alternative to this, or would I still need one of these?

Not sure what you mean alternative, you'll need some kind of encoder to interface any kind of joysticks or buttons with the PC.

LOL! I'm getting the impression that I won't like the results.
