I have been wanting to make a thread here for months but I could never get a cabinet. Today was the day! Snagged a NeoGeo/DigDug rebuild of some sort for $50! It had everything in it but the boards. I was pretty stoaked and think I got a hell of a deal. Attached Pic
PLAN
Get a 2-Player MAME cabinet built and tested by the end on March. Planning on keeping the Dig Artwork on the side and designing the color scheme based on that.
Progress
Cabinet - purchased($50)
New Buttons/Joysticks - purchased( Around $115)
IPAC2 - purchased($40)
PACLED64 - $60
12 LED Ultralux pushbuttons ($45)
19" LCD - Had at home
PC - had at home
Will update as I progress.
UPDATE: The original plan was to have two LCDs so I could display the controls and that was fine but then I stumbled across the applications that will let you configure your LED buttons to display your game controls for each game...BRILLIANT. So I gave in and added that unnecessary charge.

The day the cab materializes is always a great day! Enjoy the project!

Have to agree! Day you get the cab is awesome! I'm still working on mine, though it will take longer as there are no local suppliers; probably about the only thing that I can possibly *possibly* get done locally is the vinyl, and that's only if someone's up to scratch! I have jealousy over the local supply chain for living in a country that can support it! New Zealand just doesn't have anything for arcade machines, sadly, so I've been propping up the global economy single handed with my build!! lol
Good luck with it, hope to see more updates soon, looks kind of similar to the cab I've got :) Hope things go well for you!! Don't forget to keep us informed :)

Here is the Marquee and Console I think I am going to with.
-
Cut my plexi to cover the console. Wow that was way tougher than I thought but I got it on my second sheet :) One tiny crack near #2 start button so I'll see how that hols up. Buttons and joysticks attached but not wired. I ordered the wrong LEDs for the buttons so I am working with Andy on getting the proper ones with cables.
Marquee Plexi cut and fits perfectly. Need to print Marquee
Took Cabinet marquee light and added a plug so it will plug into an outlet
Gutted the rest of the cabinet...need to figure out how to mount the LCD. Have a couple Ideas but need to run through it.

In the past I've drilled the panel first and then clamped the plexi between the panel and a scrap piece of plywood and use the panel as template with same hole saws.
I dig the panel art!
good day.

Nice original panel art indeed!

Like the art. Good luck with the build.

Yeah it was more the destruction of the Plexi when drilling. :) I ended up getting a step bit(or something that has like 12 sizes in one bit) and then a 1/8" hole bit. Pre drilled on starting points for button/joystick holes with the stepbit and then slowly let the 1/8 bit pull into plexi and then went full throttle...seemed to work pretty good.
Thanks for the comments guys...took a few hours to design it and now it is ttached it looks preety cool...I think. I'll post a pic of that later this week.

Mounted LCD, re-attached console to Cabinet. Failed at getting coin slot to work and played a few games. It was pretty cool! :)
Not finished yet but about 90% done I would say.
-
Really nice so far! :applaud: I had finally decided on naming my build the time machine though until I just saw this one. Thanks a lot haha. I really like that artwork by the way.

Danger ahead! "90% complete" and "Played a few games" in one post. The last 10% will be slow once the cab is playable...
Looking forward to see pictures!

You are not kidding...played again tonight...made some very minor tweaks to the config of the IPAC...and played for about an hour and a half :)
Attached picture of Alli(my daughter) helping me clean the side of the CAB :)

Bezel. You'll see the middle is vague it is due to my lack thereof good measuring skills and mounting skills on the cabinet :) Plus everytime I print it with a plotter printer it does not account for the margins and jacks it all up...trust me I have some test prints...so I moved my controls and whatnot to give me maximum cutting area for the LCD :)
LEDs are in and tested fine with some help from Andy and Ultimarc. Coin slots working with controls but LEDs will not light. Need to order those. Also need to order another Super Joystick as I like those better than the MAG-Stik Plus...sadly. Attached pic of bezel

Been a long time since I posted anything. This has been about 99% for about a year now. I am thinking about doing a second cab when I stumbledf across this and saw I never posted any finished pics. Nothing flashy but I did it! :)
Bezel is the 1% left...I need to get a nice pro-printout and adjust some of the graphics a bit. Just have not taken the time.
Here are a couple pics and I will post a startup video later this week.
