Title: Question Regarding Acrylic for CP/marquee/bezel cover
Post by: Yourname942 on February 16, 2013, 06:08:14 pm
I'm not really sure which to choose for the control panel cover, bezel/marquee cover:
Lexan or Plexi

My question is:
- Is one better than the other? (if cost doesn't matter which would you choose?/why)
I know that plexi is harder and brittle, but ive heard that lexan is extremely durable and even bullet resistant, but is it scratch resistant? (does it scratch really easily)

Thanks.

Edit: the only thing is, the lexan sheet is 1/16" and the plexi is 1/4" thick.
I'm also using 3/4" mdf.

Edit2: I just foundhttp://www.tapplastics.com
So I can get 1/4" lexan as well.

All of it scratches pretty easy unless it has a scratch resistant coating.  But anything your going to find at Home Depot/Lowes etc isn't going to have that.  The scratch coatings are usually found on Lexan windows for cars or buildings.

Lexan(Polycarbonate) is stronger so if i was going to use it id use it for the control panel where people will be banging around.  But I'm using Acrylic on all of mine.
