Title: Meteor hits Earth
Post by: fallacy on February 15, 2013, 10:35:34 am
Anyone else think this is as cool as I do. It is just a reminder that space is full of flying crap and we can easily be wiped out like the dinosaurs from a random roll of the dice.

By the end of the day there will be thousands of videos, because everyone in russia has a dash cam to protect themselves from insurance fraud.

I think cool isn't the right word.  Awe inspiring maybe, terrifying, certainly.

But I think the Warner Bros.  (and the Warner Sister) sumed it up best.

If it smashes into your home while you're watching that pirated download of "Armageddon", I'll think it's as cool as you do.

I just realized I have Armageddon on Bluray.  I know what I'm watching tonight.

Think I'm tempting fate?

You won't want to miss a thing.  Over and over, you won't want to miss a thing.

They key is to focus on one at a time. Shooting them just splits them into lots of pieces, and the last thing you want is fragments flying everywhere, especially when a UFO pops in from the side.

Seriously, though, equally cool/awe inspiring and really really freaky.

Im guessing you will be at home counting all your money you made filming "Armageddon" when it happens?

If I did make a film, it wouldn't have an ASL of 2.3 seconds like any Michael Bay POS.

It was ok, I give it a solid B-. Comedy/drama with some dark humor thrown in. Nice nod to Armageddon at the beginning. At a couple points the movie wants to be romantic comedy and gets in its own way, lessening what could be a deep impact ( ;D). But worth a watch, depending how you feel about Steve Carell and Keira Knightley,

These near misses should serve as a reminder that Earth can be a pretty dangerous place and that Armageddon is a terrible movie.

These are not near-misses.

DA14, 4179 Toutatis, XE54, and TC4 are all recent near misses of dangerous asteroids.  The fireworks in Russia and Florida were insignificant compared to the big ones that we've been narrowly avoiding.
