Hi Guys,

I'm a long time listener, first time caller! First I want to say that this site is an amazing resource for building these machines. I want to share with you the Mr. Do! bartop arcade machine I just built. Here is a link to an album of pics: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ikxu0ktjzctlqlh/CvQCCrLmap (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ikxu0ktjzctlqlh/CvQCCrLmap)

Thanks! Yes it was fun but man the woodworking is really a chore. Really lucky I had access to all of the tools and my dad's experience.

I'm thinking about adding a way to lock down the control panel so people don't accidentally lift it open while playing. Right now it's on a hinge system on the bottom below the coin buttons. Got any suggestions? Doesn't have to be a lock and key system.

I've used Velcro strips under my control panels to hold them down.  Works quite well.  I put a single strip of velcro on each of the left and right undersides where the top panel rests on the under side support timber.  The velcro is strong enough to stop accidental pull ups of the panel, but easy enough to force open when you need access underneath.

+1 on velcro.  Used it on my first and only build.
Will def use on my next build which I will have the balls to post up.

You can do what they did in the old days, if you can reach around to the front.  The used to use latches to hold down the control panel from the inside,  So if you wanted to open the control panel you had to go to the back, unlock the back with a key, remove the back and then reach in and unlatch the CP.  Once unlatched it could then be lifted.

Something like this -

So I'm trying to figure out why why you didn't put any Mr. Do! art on the control panel or bezel to match?  You can easily swap the marquee with Robotron artwork and call it a Robotron bartop.  Or anything else for that matter.  What truly makes it a Mr. Do! bartop?  The marquee?    :dizzy:

Any plans to add this?

Yeah this is a start but if anything I'm considering some side art. At the moment this is more of a general arcade machine rather than a full on Mr. Do! replica. I decided on a Mr. Do! marquee because I really enjoyed playing that game as a kid. If I spruce things up I'll be sure to post more photos.

Any recommendations for getting artwork produced and/or printed?

I loved Mr. Do! As a kid too (and I still do). Which is why I asked. Lol.

Great job!

As for the artwork, checkout out www.gameongrafix.com.  They have Mr. Do side art here:  http://www.gameongrafix.com/products/mr-do-sideart-1

You can have it custom sized, so it may be cheaper since you are going smaller.

Been a little while but I wanted to post an update of the finished product in its proper location!

Just got these adjustable orange bar stools and they are awesome! Highly recommended for the price.  :)

Updated my arcade's CPU with another machine I had laying around and got Hyperspin running. Really like the outcome but MAN, is Hyperspin a chore to get going!  :banghead:
