Title: 27" Arcade Monitor - whiteness
Post by: dandro on February 08, 2013, 11:36:07 am
SO got this monitor for free, was unknown if it was working or not as he had no boards to test it with. Sat in his garage for 8 years. After I got it home, cleaned it up and wired it to the Jamma harness, I was able to get this screen out of it:

I looked at the manual for the "Invasion the Abductors" PCB that I have and it does have a video adjustment section.

When you look at the image I took, you can clearly see that the white isn't so white, that it has a yellowish tinge to it. The red, green, bles all seem to adjust well, but I didn't have that much time to really play with it.

My question is this: Is the whiteness something that should be able to be adjusted with the video test patterns, or is it common (or not) that sometimes the whiteness goes out and repairs are necessary.

Here is what the screen looked like before attaching it to the harness:

Another shot when the connection for the synch was loose (here I can see bits of white:

I am totally new at this monitor thing, just got this in the off chance I can build a new cabinet for the MAM PC, without hacking into the cabinet I already have (here):

Well, the good news is that it appears to work.

It's normal for the colors to drift some with time, though severe issues can be due to a fault (some reparable, some not).

Not knowing what that screen is supposed to look like, I can't tell how bad it is.  It looks like it may be missing blue entirely.  Bring up an RGB ramp/color bar pattern and see.
