I'm looking to buy a working Apache Controls Blackhawk Push/Pull spinner. They appear to be sold out of the primary spinner on their website. No response from the customer service email.
I am aware that GGG makes a push/pull spinner, but I only want to use that as a last resort. I have used the Apache spinner on other projects in the past, and I like it a lot.

If someone has one they're willing to sell, I'll pay you double what you paid for it.

I'd give the GGG up/down a try. I dig it. Plus it can be used as a regular spinner. The Apache has a bit more resistance.....unless you like the original Tempest spinner.....

I'm trying to avoid the GGG spinner because I don't like the way it mounts to the panel. I think the mounting plate is ugly and would take too much work to embed into the panel. I would likely mount it onto an MDF panel with plexiglass on top, and I don't know if the shaft would be long enough to accommodate the extra height.
Otherwise, it looks like a nice compact design.

It does. I did it. The mounting is somewhat time consuming but not difficult.

Thanks for chiming in LeChuck. I did see your post about mounting the GGG spinner; is this the cabinet you put the plexi on? Can you post a picture of the finished mounting with plexi?

It doesn't look like there is clearance but there is plenty. I play tons of DOT and it works great. No complaints.

I just mounted it on top. My only beef was that the mounting plate isn't beveled, though Randy said he would make one for me. Of course, I could probably get it done for a hotdog at a local plastic shop. Or do it myself with a router or something.

There are other ways to mount the High-Low as well. If your panel is using a plexi overlay, you just need a hole in the wood large enough for the spinner body, and three well placed holes in the overlay. You can remove the mounting plate (which you will need to do anyway for this type of install) to use as a template. Then just attach the spinner body directly to the overlay. Same goes for metal panels.
The added capabilities, and smaller size of the High-Low spinner make it compatible with a larger variety of games and panels, and you won't need to pay double to get one ;).

I was gonna say this, too, but as I haven't worked with plexi wasn't sure about it. The only issue I see is somebody...um, like me....getting pissed (off) in a game and smashing down on the thing. Ooops.

Thanks for the input Randy. The main issue is that I don't want to have any screws or bolts visible on the control panel. I am using 5/8" MDF with 1/8" plexi on top. All the mounting holes will be countersunk and bondo'd with a vinyl overlay applied and then the plexi laid on top.
The other issue I have with the TT Hi/Lo is the sealed housing. I understand this was done to keep out dust and debris, but it makes it hard to repair if there is ever a mechanical problem with it. That is what I liked about the Apache spinner: the body was open, the shaft height and push/pull action were completely adjustable, and it could be mounted easily with hidden screws.
Not knocking your spinner at all, there are pros and cons to each one, it's just the pros for the GGG spinner happen to be cons for me.
I do like the GGG spinner knob though and will be buying one regardless of which spinner I end up using.

That can be achieved by doing what Le Chuck did. It's not as hard as it looks, and if you plan on an overlay anyway, it doesn't even need to be pretty.

There are no user-serviceable parts which are sealed off and practically speaking, no parts which would ever need servicing, other than possibly a switch a long way down the road, and those are mounted right on the outside of the body. It's also about 6x the resolution, and doesn't wear on the switch actuators if turned while pushing or pulling, making this even less of an issue.
But I understand that the routing requirement is a deal breaker for you, based on the no screws objective. I think those who responded just wanted to make sure you were aware that there are solutions available which can provide wider functionality without having to pay double.;)

There is one on the Discs of TRON machine that Mat_SP is looking to find out what he could sell the machine for - He might be up to selling the spinner and replacing it with a different spinner beffore selling it - so might try asking him !
