Title: Questions about powered subwoofers...
Post by: mcseforsale on February 07, 2013, 02:19:16 pm
My mame cab has a small 15W x 2 +1 amp powering 2 car speakers in the speaker panel, and it also is wired to a crappy 5" "woofer" speaker.  The entire thing is powered by a 1amp wallwart, but the bass is fairly weak.  Can I make a powered subwoofer enclosure, using the input signal from this weak amplifier, but relying on another power source?

You could use something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-Audio-SA25-Subwoofer-Amplifier/dp/B0002YUMY8/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360571519&sr=1-9 (http://www.amazon.com/Dayton-Audio-SA25-Subwoofer-Amplifier/dp/B0002YUMY8/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360571519&sr=1-9)

What you need is an amplifier with “high level” input. Not the best solution from an audiophile perspective, but for this purpose it is good enough.

Yeah, I was looking at that one.  I know it's not ideal, but it's already set up and the 2x channels are fine, but the little amp can't power the sub for crap.  25 watts would be just enough.

Thanks!
