Hello everyone!
I thought that instead of hammering all of you with questions from a "n00b," that I would instead just introduce myself in the hopes of being welcomed into, and a contributing part of, this community.
I have been a long time lurker here, several years in fact, but I am just now in a position, with family, school, and religious commitments, not to mention the bad economy and a tough work situation, to be able to finally get around to putting together my first project - a bartop arcade.
This community has seemed to me to be overwhelmingly helpful and gives sound advice in steering people in the right direction because of the passion they put into their projects.
Although I am a "noob" to arcade building, I would consider myself above average when it comes to researching how parts go together, which computer components to buy, how to work power tools and what tools I need for the job, etc. In other words, I know how to do research, even if I don't completely understand all the technicalities of things. I am a graduate student, nearing completion of my M.A. in liberal arts/theological studies, and plan on doing PhD work in the next couple of years or so. I am also a family man, and a gaming man, although admittedly, I am usually reading and researching about games than actually playing them as game studies is what I want to do my PhD in. Gaming, and classic gaming, has always been a part of my life for the past 26 years (I'm in my 30's now). Not only do I want to build a bartop arcade for my own nostalgia and entertainment, but also because it is a worthwhile project, and frankly, one my research interests is the ethics of emulation (which, btw, I have no problem with but as we all know, there are a host of ethical questions that come along with it).
Well, that is all for now. I hope that I can be a part of this community and contribute to the conversation here.

Ah, ah, ahhh - take that to PnNnR. Big squishes, otherwise.

Now now, it was only said in passing...no need to get all ban-hammered.

I was being mis-chee-vious! My second sentence was even, accidentally, an inversional pun. Which all corroborate the welcome to the nut house remark.
