Title: Enabling Cheats?

Hey everyone... trying to enable cheats in MK3 to get this hidden characters to show.  I got the cheat.zip file and ticked the "enable cheats" option in the MAME gui... however, when I press the in-game TAB menu option, there's nothing there for me to enable the cheats?  Any help because they are not showing?  Thanks in advance!
