Title: Does anyone know what joystick model is this?
Post by: cammada on January 29, 2013, 08:42:02 pm
There is an eBay item that doesn't say what type of model. Could anyone be able to identify what model is this joystick?

Definitely not a JLF-TP-8YT (shown below)

6of1's link was to a generic Sanwa that Paradise sells for $8.75 (out of stock) -- but looks can be decieving.

Since the seller does not specify a manufacturer or part number, I would assume it is a generic Chinese knockoff, especially for AU 6.92.

Normally you'd expect to pay around $20 for the JLF (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/sanwa-joysticks/695-sanwa-jlf-tp-8yt-joystick.html).

There's a reason for the old sayings:
-- You get what you pay for.
-- If a deal looks too good to be true . . .   :dunno

Personally, I recommend sticking with reputable vendors, especially ones with ties to the forums.  YMMV.

generic Sanwa jlf knock-off

Both paradisearcadeshop and groovygamegear sell them.
I don't know anyone who has tried them.

Guess I should have put emphasis on the word "looks"  :lol

You made a good call.  OP made the leap from generic Sanwa to JLF.

The reason I mentioned that "looks can be decieving" was that Bryan set Unstupid and me straight on someone selling a knockoff version of the PacMan Reunion stick here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,128613.msg1315617.html#msg1315617).

Once bitten, twice shy.

Looks like a zippy stick.

Only if you don't look at the restrictor plate.   ::)

So the shaft is generic and not same quality as the real quality joystick?

The link in the original post is a generic Sanwa stick -- quality level unknown.   :dunno

If you want a known quality level, stick with a known vendor and known stick model/part number.

You won't find Mercedes quality for Yugo prices.

^ This + 1.  And at the end of the day, it's not like the marginal price difference is that big anyway.  Maybe an extra 20 bucks or so.
