Well I am in the process of building an arcade cabinet for my sister and her husband. Originally I was not going to include any artwork or a marquee, so that they could add the finishing style to the cab. Well I have been thinking and came up with an idea for a Marquee for them. He is really into sports, especially baseball so I was thinking about making that a sort of theme so it would blend in with their basement(full of bobbleheads and all kinds of sports collectibles).
So here is a quick and dirty of the marquee I was thinking about. Use baseball logos to spell out "arcade".
The questions I have are:
-Cool idea, or kind of tacky?
-Does it flow alright, or does it look cluttered and is hard to read as "arcade"?
-The E, does it just make the whole thing suck since it really is not a stand alone logo and is just the begining of Expos?
-Go with this idea and suprise them, or leave the artwork/marquee to them?
-Any other comments or suggestions.
Please note that this is just a quick and dirty of what I am thinking, I have put no real time in throwing it together so please don't comment on the poor presentation, just more on the idea. Thanks, Raleigh

Although the idea is cool, I don't think the letters really "flow" due to the extensive differences of colour and font styles. There's just too much variance, and the picture appears "busy" detracting from the overall image. It also wouldn't blend in well if you decided to place something behind it.
Also, keep in mind that it's a marquee, and has to be designed to have a light behind it. I can't see any way those letters would "light up" or "glow" convincingly.
What I suggest you should do, is have a look at some typical arcade baseball game marquee's, and attempt to copy one of their styles. I don't know much about baseball, but I think "ARCADE" or something similar in this style of baseball font could look really cool on a marquee.

How about maybe a shadow box kind of marquee are where you could put some sports memorabilia (like baseballs) behind the plexi and a 3d name for the cab cut out of wood in the baseball font or something... Or how about a little baseball bat in the shadow box with the name of the cab etched into it, or lit with some glow wire, or something?
Just spouting out what popped into my head...
Maybe stuff beind the bezel or something, or window boxs on the sides of the cab.
Dunno, just thinking out loud. ::)

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions, all very helpful. Since it is a Christmas gift I have almost two months to decide, but right now I am thinking that I will just leave it up to them. I would hate to put alot of time and effort into something I think they would like and then they have their own idea of what would fit them better. But I plan on giving them ideas, so again thanks for the suggestions so far, and if anyone else has anything to add I would surely appreciate it. Thanks, Raleigh
