I found a old mercs cabinet that someone started to turn into a mame machine. It has a 27" 9200(wgz2792-uots44k) monitor. I will be mostly playing 4 player games like simpsons/tmnt/xmen/nba jam/nfl blitz etc but would also like to play street figter/neo geo fighting games etc. I cant find much info on the d9200, most people say they are not as good is a d9400 or d9800. I was told its only been used for a couple hrs. What is the monitor worth? He is asking $350for the cabinet, monitor, 2 Ultimar Mag-Stik Plus and 2 other joysticks/buttons, guy thinks everything is Ultimar but does not really know what he has. Worst thing is its a 2 1/2 hr drive each way.

When they work they are nice. When they do not work they can be a pain.
Search this forum for "D9200" and "D9200 problem" and read up. There are common problems (IC103 forgetting settings, melted yoke, etc.)
I think $350 is fair for a working and burn-free 27" D9200 and the extras you mentioned.
I have one and although it works I am currently putting in a Bob Roberts capacitor kit before I install it.
-
can be extremely difficult to repair,if the yoke shorts(which is very common) then it blow the hell out of a load of components
this is just about the only monitor i do not like to repair
when working they have good picture and great resolution range

It also comes with a ipac2. Is the capacitor kit a fairly easy install? I read up more about them when I get home tonight. I am just trying to decide what I want to do because thursday is about the only day I will have to go buy it if I want it. My goal is to build a cabinet that pretty actuate plays the games as I remeber is a kid. After thinking about it my first cabinet will be a two player with trackball.

I have one in my MAME cabinet and really enjoy it. Good size, great screen, easy to hook up because it has a VGA port.
Guess I am lucky.

I found a guy in Columbus oh about 1 1/2 from me who has over 100 arcade cabinets and monitors. What would be the better 27" or 25" monitors to look for and any to avoid? This is my first build and hope to build a couple more if everything goes well. But besides tje last few days I haven't really researched anything since I first got intrested in building one 10 years ago.

You have to remove and replace about 80 capacitors. Not to bad if you have a desoldering iron to aid in removal.
I use this one:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062731 (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062731)
I am about half way through being very careful to check the values and polarity of each one.
Remove: Press bulb on desoldering iron, apply desoldering iron tip over soldered lead/PCB trace (the solder melts), release bulb to suck up solder, remove desoldering iron.
Replace: Put correct value capacitor in correct position. Heat the capacitor's lead and the PCB trace, apply solder wire to the hot lead/trace (the solder melts melts into the hole), remove solder wire, remove iron.
After you do a few it goes faster.
Here is the list of capacitors: http://www.juniorsrevenge.com/wgd9200caplist.txt (http://www.juniorsrevenge.com/wgd9200caplist.txt)
My monitor works fine, I am doing the capacitor kit as a preventative measure so hopefully the monitor can last another 20 years :dunno
The D9200 is said to experience catastrophic failure when it dies.
It is not the size as much as the digital tri-sync chassis (electronics boards) that give the problems.

That does not seem to bad. Maybe I pick it up. I know I can use the ipac2 regardless and pretty sure the joysticks will be fine for my 4player if or when I build it. Hoping I can get it all for around $200 but have plan to play for $350 worse case. Then I can run up to Columbus and see what he has for cabinets and monitors. Any recommended size monitor for a 4 player cabinet non showcase? It would mostly be me and the kids playing tmnt/xmen/sunset riders etc. Would I even need more then 3 buttons on each player for that cabinet? Been awhile but can't think of a 3/4 game that uses 4 buttons.
-
There was a thread about this recently, and the consensus seemed to be 6-7 buttons for players one and two, 3-4 for players three and four. 3 should be enough; I'm having trouble thinking of a four player game needing 4 buttons.

Consider me facepalmed. DDSOM is certainly deserving of that extra button. Haven't played Tower of Doom yet, I'm assuming it's pretty much the same.

dont feel bad i did to. Guess when i get around to building the 4 player cabinet it have 4 buttons for each player. Thanks dgame for that list, guess i will have to use one of those games cp style and artwork when i build the dedicated 4 player cabinet.
