i need to know if some one can help am trying to upgrade my ultracade i would like to see if any one knows were i can get some game packs i have 86 games in it i have my lil ones that love it and i just want to see what i can do to put more games on it when i got it i thought by chance it would have space ace but no luck i would love to get the pack mans and the bubble bobble and mortal combat so if any one can help it would be greatly appreciated

you cannot currently legally purchase game packs for the ultracade.
the original maker of the ultracade system did not obtain permission to use the intellectual property of the game makers to use them with the system. before the companies found out, he sold the business to Global VR, telling them that he had permission and paid licencing to use them. Global VR ended up paying a whole whack of money to the original game makers for stealing their games...even though they didn't do it.
in a nutshell, any packs our there are illegal to sell, because there is no permission from the original game makers to use it.
Global VR obtained legal use of some games, and have since re-released the system under a different name. http://www.globalvr.com/products_gac.html (http://www.globalvr.com/products_gac.html) They will not support the ultracade, they will not talk to you about it.
BUT you are in luck in another sense. The IO board used in the ultracade is simply pretending to be a keyboard. you can build a computer, install MAME and have whichever games you wish. all the controls are just button presses on a keyboard.

the 81 pack that come with the ultracade system is different from the 81 that comes with AL system. (due to global fixing the licencing issue)
the games he's looking for all came on the AL system (mortal combat, bubble bobble etc.) base pack. There is currently no way to manually inject roms in the system, as it's a very closed system with a custom OS and file system. Dave himself said the system OS was designed to keep people from messing with it.
Global would rather wash their hands of the ultracade, but because they went down the road on that venture (if even for a single day) they are still responsible for it.
Word round the campfire is if you call Global up asking for installation Id's for the ultracade, they won't even give you one. My guess is that they are hoping the machines eventually die out on their own.
i have a trackball usb pack that went faulty on me and it won't install (says it's used/locked but I never used it). I contacted global and they said to contact the distributor we got it from. the distributor threw their hands in the air and said they'll have nothing to do with that, and to call global.
the whole licencing fiasco regarding the ROMS has made everyone super paranoid in that no one wants to deal with it or risk getting sued.
as it sits, you can purchase system install disks ($17) and 81basepack disks ($168.30) from global for the arcade classics machine. whether or not they would work with the original ultracade hardware would be up in the air. even then, you may not get an installation ID from Global to install it.

No illegal activity -- No copyright violations, no selling or trading for which you do not have a legal right to do so.
No buying/selling/linking to same for xx-in-1 boards. By and large they include illegal copies of ROMs, or use unauthorized versions of MAME. Multi-boards that do not have these issues or other legal problems are fine. For example, an unpopulated Multi-Williams board for which you have to supply your own ROMs is OK.
No hidden details, no "backup" CDs/DVDs, no "PM or email me for details," no winks or nods, no links to same, etc. .
