So I have the minipac with a spinner, ultimarc trak ball and related wire harnesses.
There are 3 connectors coming off the spinner/trak ball header.
1) RED-YELLOW-GREEN-BLACK. This seems like a no brainer since the trak ball has a connector(#1) with the same colors in that order.
2) RED-BLUE-BLACK-PURPLE. This is a little more complicated since the connector (#2) on the trak ball is RED-BLUE-PURPLE. Is it just a matter of reordering the wires on the connector to match the trak ball (with black not used)?
3) RED-BROWN-ORANGE-BLACK. I'm guessing this needs to be rewired also since the spinner is +5V, Ch-A, CH-B, GND

Looks good.

When I got my minipac, two wires were reversed like this -- I think the same ones.
Change the harness-side connector to RED-BLUE-PURPLE-BLACK
The UTrak-side connector missing ground is OK because the opto board grounds are tied together inside the trackball. The Red-Green-Yellow-Black connector provides ground for both X- and Y-axis.
3) RED-BROWN-ORANGE-BLACK. I'm guessing this needs to be rewired also since the spinner is +5V, Ch-A, CH-B, GND
Should be good as-is. Red is 5V, black is ground, brown and orange are data.

No rewiring necessary.
I was looking at the colors of the wires, instead refer to the minipac wiring diagram. The harness is wired correctly the way it comes, the purple/blue/red/black from the minipac goes to the spinner, not the purple/blue/red on the trak ball.
Now I just need to find the test program for the buttons.
Thanks PL1 for the push in the right direction.

The WinIPAC program is here (http://www.ultimarc.com/download.html).
Tools-Test Mode will let you test your inputs.
