Title: Neon MAME cabinet question
Post by: Dekieon on January 23, 2013, 05:48:09 pm
Hello I am considering building a MAME cabinet, and have been look around for some inspiration. I found one cabinet that stands out from the rest and would like to know if anyone can answer some questions about it.

First off the cabinet I would like some answers for is this one...http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,30538.0.html (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,30538.0.html)

So my first question is...All the other mame cabinets show rivets or something holding the joysticks, trackballs, and spinners in place...How was this cabinet able to not have those, or hide those?

My second question is, what kind of trackball is this and what size? I would like one that glows in the dark for my machine, do they come is different colors? Where can I get one?

Thirdly, is  the CP top covered in plexy glass?

Lastly, I have been looking for leaf  buttons like these on the net for sale. I can find the short clear translucent buttons of various colors, but not the long buttons, which I assume is what I would need when using wood. Anyone know where I can order buttons like these in light blue?

Welcome to the Forum.  You may find it difficult to copy the Neon Mame exactly as it is an 8 year-old project and some things are harder to find.  Leaf buttons in-particular.  It is one of my favorite cabinets and I modeled mine after it as well.

You could start with Bob Roberts and see if he still has the buttons you want in stock.

I believe the Trackball he used is a Happ 3" Translucent Blue trackball.  Our own Divemaster carries them at his website.  http://www.arcadeemulator.net (http://www.arcadeemulator.net)

As far as the joysticks he routes an opening so the joystick can sit flush with the control panel.  The artwork is then laid over the top.  Here is a picture of one of Knievel's CP's without the artwork.

I was having a heck of a time, finding translucent buttons, I decided on going with these....
http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-translucent-buttons/579-hoku-il-rgb-pushbutton-psl-l.html (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-translucent-buttons/579-hoku-il-rgb-pushbutton-psl-l.html)

I am hoping that when I apply a light blue led to them that I get an icy effect which is what I would like my cabinet to be themed around.

All of my lit buttons and joysticks are from Paradise Arcade.  They are awesome, evenly lit, and come with Hawaiian candy.  I recommend them.

I am glad to hear that. Are your buttons that some ones that I bought?
Also what are you using to light them? I was thinking of using the http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/button-leds/100-il-lumination-rgb-5vdc-led.html (http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/button-leds/100-il-lumination-rgb-5vdc-led.html) to light the buttons.

I second Paradise Arcade and their IL pushbutton, especially with a Rollie leaf switch.
