Title: IPAC2 Device Manager question
Post by: Pakled on January 19, 2013, 08:48:03 pm
I'm setting up a new MAME cabinet and I have a question about the IPAC2 I've connected to it. Can anyone tell me which line is the IPAC2 in the WinXP Device Manager? I'm having some problems with the player one buttons not working and I want to make sure that WinXP sees the IPAC2 properly. I opened up notepad and was able to get characters on the player 2 buttons but the FAQ on Ultimarc says you won't get much out of the Player One buttons because of what the defaults are mapped to. I'm using MAMEUI32 and I also have Maximus Arcade for a front end although so far the buttons don't seem to work with either MAMEUI32 or when going through Maximus Arcade. I have a solid green light on my IPAC2 and I have used it in the past on another computer where it seemed to work fine in a Windows 7 environment.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer,
Pakled

Your ipac is just a keyboard and the player 1 buttons do no show very well in notepad because they are Ctrl Alt etc.  Get the keyboard utility such as keyscan from the download section of BYOAC and you will be able to see what keys are being registered. I uploaded it just in case you do not frequent the main part of BYOAC.

OK, I used the keyscan program you provided. (THANK YOU) All of the keys are sending the right signals to the PC. I loaded Galaga and Gauntlet in MAMEUI32. What I noticed is that the fire button in Galaga (Player1 Switch1) doesn't seem to register. Player1 Coin and Player1 Start work fine. I loaded Gauntlet so I could check the Player2 Buttons. What I found is that the Player2 Down seems to run both the down movement of Player2 but also the Player1 Switch1 Fire button. Checked the wires and all seem to be connected properly. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?
Any help you can give would be appreciated,
Pakled

Since only some games are messed up, launch a game that is acting up and press tab to bring up menu, go to "Input (this Game)", and check that the problematic inputs are properly assigned.

If not:
1. Highlight the wrongly assigned input.
2. Press enter, press escape. (clears inputs)
3. Then press enter, press the desired button/key (to assign the key) or escape. (restores MAME defaults for that input)
4. Repeat steps 1-3 as needed.
