Title: Can we talk about setting up and angling the screen??
Post by: willybeamish on January 19, 2013, 12:46:12 pm
I have a LCD TV I was thinking about using but was sure on what kind of angle I should be shooting for?
When we make a bezel what material is cheap and works??
Should I use glass or plexiglass to cover it up??

Thanks everyone cant wait to finish this.

1) Plexi glass scratches easily - even wiping dust off over time will dull it up.  I'd use tempered glass.

2) The screen angel - Idealy you want to me looking at the center of the screen, with your eyes parallel to the screen angel, so its totally natural to look at.  But this would require you to mount your screen around the same hieght as your head - so its not very practical.

I mounted mine so when I look done at it, the screen is angle is titled to match my viewing angle.  Which means for my cabinet, its angle'd up a little bit.  I'm currently building a driving cab, where the screen will be mounted slightly above my natural eye position, so it'll will be angled slightly down to match.

I hope that helps a little.  Its really trial and error for what works for you.

Appreciate it I have an idea on what your saying ill be trying to set this up next week after I get my Tankstick in. Any suggestions on a bezel?? Also do you mount the glass basically laying right on the monitor or do you leave a few inches gap?? And lastly if glass is covering the front of my monitor where the power button is..what do you guys do leave the monitor on all the time??

I find a 75degree angle to be comfortable for me.  (90degrees - 15 degrees)

+1 for glass instead of plexi.

As far as the angle goes... you can get away with a LOT.  Cocktail cabinets mounted monitors horizontal.  A lot of the older vertical games were mounted around 15-20 degrees off horizontal.  The earlier comment about 75 degrees is good too.

When I mounted my monitor at 22.5 degrees, my wife was concerned that it would feel weird to play at that angle.  She assumed that the player should be looking straight at the screen.  The mind is very... very good, at interpretation. :)

If I were you, I'd focus more on how I wanted the cab to look, and the monitor angle will fall into place on its own.
