Mala was working perfectly for me when i first set it up this evening, then all of a sudden i started to get the problem with losing focus and keyboard not responding unless i did a mouseclick on the screen.
Thinking back to what i'd done i realised the only thing that i'd recently changed that could have had an effect was the "dos window state" option - i'd changed it from "normal (use while testing) to "hidden".
I changed it back to normal and since then i havent had any issues. Anyone else having the problem please try this and let everyone know if it takes care of the issue for you too. Only downside is you'll see the dos window pop up when you start a game.
Once i've tested it a bit longer to be sure i might try the "minimized" setting to see if it happens with that also.

I have had this problem before but it had nothing to do with DOS..... check out these two threads... the first is about focus logger and such.
the other is about my own issue with windows.

The focus logger plugin was the first thing i tried and it didn't work for me.
I also had the "show taskbar" turned off and no other windows or programs in the background to steal focus.

Simple solutions have been overlooked before. :)

As a followup, i've been playing for a few days now and haven't lost focus once, so i'm pretty confident this is at least one of the causes

With AllInOne you can configure a button to give the focus to any proccess that you want it.

Hi
I've had similar problems. The focus logger fix seemed to work for me. However, I also changed from "Hidden" to "Minimised" as I found an emulator (Kega Fusion) would stall on selecting any ROM on the "Starting..." screen. It didn't even seem to be running in the background. Moving from "hidden" seemed to help here.
So, for Mala, avoid "Hidden" I reckon :-)
Now all I need to work out is why my sound just disappears!

I've never had any issues with the standard three emulators - MAME, Daphne, and Visual Pinball. But with AAE it seems to spend some time trying to render the screen, which ends up being a bit smaller than the game list image - whereas AAE loads straight in about two seconds from the command line. So there must be something non-generic in how Mala handles each emulator. OR Mala handles each emulator in a generic way that interferes with each one's natural command line loading.
Now all I need to work out is why my sound just disappears!
I've found it depends on your audio settings (repeat, shuffle, etc), and how long they are and whether they have long bits of silence in them or cueing; as well as what kinds of audio files you have selected - if it's one Mala doesn't support, Mala might stop play rather than just skipping it.

Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but I just found out that enabling "multithreading" in MAME makes my Mala often lose focus on game exit.
