Title: Couple questions regarding powering on LCD monitors in Cocktail cabs
Post by: gevaudan2 on January 16, 2013, 01:05:26 am
Hello All

I recently bought a couple of 60-in-1 cocktail cabinets that have all the parts except for monitors.
Both cabs have a pc power cable input on the backs of the machines which have the power switch next to the input.
One machine has a PSU wired directly to the power switch and the other cab has a power strip wired to the power switch with a PSU then plugged into that.

I've decided to get LCD arcade monitors for each of these machines but for now I'm just using my PC's LCD monitor.
The trouble I'm having with the first machine is that I can't find a way to get the LCD monitor wired to the PSU as there is no place for the monitor to get plugged into normally.
Is there some sort of adapter that I could plug into a 4-pin molex on the PSU and then plug the other end directly into the pc power cable port of the monitor?

And the issue I'm having with the second cab (which will also affect the first cabinet), is that once the monitor is plugged in and the cabinet is powered on, I still have to press the power button on the monitor itself so it will display.
Is there anyway to get the monitor to switch itself on as soon as power is sent to it?
Or is that just a problem with PC monitors? And if so, will the LCD arcade monitors automatically turn themselves on once the power switch is turned on?

I'm new to this hobby and I live in Australia just so you know and I'm only just starting to learn about electronics now so it may take me a bit to understand some things haha.
I'd really appreciate any help you guys can give me.

Cheers

PC monitors mostly go into a powersave/sleep mode in the absence of a video signal. I just leave the monitors' power buttons on in my mini-pinball and whenever a signal shows up, they jump to life.

Depends on how your LCD monitors get power.   If they have an ac cord that plugs in then there is no place to feed it from a PC supply molex.  If it has a power brick that plugs into the monitor and is 12V DC then you can feed if from a PC molex ( Yellow Plus and Black grnd).  Most PC LCD monitors will return to the state that they were in when power was removed.  So if you leave the front power button on they should turn on when your re apply power.

Thanks guys

I might try looking into getting two types of power adapters that I may be able to combine in order to get the results I want with getting power to the first cabs monitor. But no there is no power brick for the monitor, just a cable the plugs straight into monitor and then the outlet.
I am still having trouble with the PC monitor not turning back on once the power that was cut from it is restored. When the machine is turned off, the monitor is cut-off from power completely and once the power switch on the machine is turned on it doesn't go into stand-by mode or turn on unless I press its power button too.
