Title: bartop - adding 2nd control
Post by: illinifro on January 13, 2013, 07:56:39 pm
Me and my brother are planning to build bartops for each of us, he is doing the woodwork, I'm handling the controls and software config.   We are using the Weecade plans.  We would like to have 2 players with 6 buttons, but since space is at a premium, I was thinking about using a standalone controller when we need 2 players instead of having 2 joysticks and sets of buttons built in.  It seems like the usual solution is to plug in a USB controller, which would work fine I think, but it would be nicer if it was wireless.  Just wanted to see if people have ran into this situation and what your thoughts are.

You could use a wireless 360 controller receiver on the inside of your cab - LINK (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Black-PC-Wireless-Controller-Gaming-Receiver-Adapter-For-Microsoft-XBOX-360-/120996763780?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item1c2bf81884)

and hack up a 360 controller into your stand alone controller

my quick $0.02

Makes sense, is the receiver mounted on the outside somehow?  If not, how do you hit the button on the receiver to start the syncing process, just open the cabinet?

I'm not completely against just hooking up a USB controller, just curious on everyone's experiences.  Any others?

I have never tried this, but is how I would go about doing this. Thought about wireless control panel a bunch of times.

You can make the sync button external, on the back of the cabinet for example. Just solder two wires from the button on the receiver to a momentary push button like this one from radioshack.

If you wanted to, you could also make a separate breakout controller (with a joystick and buttons) so that both players would be using real arcade equipment, but you could store the controller out of the way and just get it out when you need it. I think Unstupid did this as best as anyone. Check out his thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,114435.msg1235370.html#msg1235370).

If you wanted to go crazy, you could try to make it so that you could connect the 2 Weecades together when you wanted to play against each other. I'm planning on doing something like this, but haven't started my project yet
