Hey Guys,
Playing around with Maximus Arcade and find it is really ice to use. i love the idea of video previews while going through the games but I hate that it wants AVIs - which are huge. I did find that .FLVs should work but when I try to use them I get and error when highlighting the game in the game list - attached error. Been on the vendor's forums but nothing has been changed since 2010. anyone have a work around for this?
I'm on Win7 but my end PC win be WinXP - just doing some testing and configuring.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that's a known bug that will never be fixed. The developer who wrote MA no longer supports the software. I would try Mala, Hyperspin, or GameEx. I ditched MA after I found out about the bug and switched to GameEx. I've never looked back...

Either switch or go back to the AVIs and live with the larger files. If there is a bug the is no chance of getting it fixed.

are you serious? It's a good front end and easy to use. Dang it. I tried Hyperspin and it is too clunky and needs other apps to run. I did not like the look of Mala. So maybe I will give GameEx a try. Damn it! :) Thanks guys!

DLing GameEX now....I dunno the demo seems flat and boring. I do not need to flashy but MA really had a nice look to it...well a look I liked. GE seems to have some much other stuff I do not care about nlike music, movies, Youtube...I have a dedicated PC that I do all that on...I want a FE just for MAME/Emulators for my multi-cade cabinet. I'll still give it a try but I dunno...too much is not always a good thing.
I want to be able to do Custom lists and see high scores...while easily get to games. :) None of the other junk LOL

GameEx is extremely skinnable, and has integrated tools available for tweaking or constructing themes. Here's a theme strongly inspired by the look and feel of Maximus Arcade:

Like gamepimp, I was a long time MA user but jumped ship when mameseer stopped supporting his product (according to many reports he continued to accept payments despite being extremely slow to send registration codes, that is if he bothered to send them at all).
Now I couldn't be happier with GameEx. The support you receive is second to none, and Tom Speirs (the developer of GameEx) is extremely responsive to user feedback. The occasional bug report is typically dealt with in hours rather than days. There are definitely a lot of features available in GameEx, but it's all very configurable and you can typically disable any functionality you're not interested in (you can even install GameEx Lite if you're truly only interested in running MAME and a handful of emulators)

I really enjoyed the initial setup wizard. Allowed me to disable a lot of things I did not want. I have stumbled across alot of themes and the "WarGames" grabs me but I do have a couple issues.
I'm not a fan of the listing inside once I launch Game EX but I think I just need to get used to it. Overall I like it...but I feel I have some learning to do yet.

You can make custom menus and tweak the themes to ur heart's content with the tools that come with GameEx. I think u will find that ur only limited by ur own imagination when it comes to customizing the frontend.
