Hi there, I have an arcade cabinet fitted with some generic 4-way joysticks and I wanna buy new ones that work great, mostly with fighting games. During my search I found the Happ Super Arcade Joystick that looked a good choice but the thing is the mounting holes don't fit my cabinet, is there some king of adapter to change the holes? I also found some Sanwa joysticks with mounting holes that I think they fit my cabinet because the mounting plate can be rotated.
Thanks in advance

Can you post a pic of the old joystick? This will help us to identify the stick.

Yep. A drill.

Go with Sanwa JLF's or Seimitsu LS-32's if you're serious about 2D fighters. Happ Supers are pretty bad. Don't use a Sanwa JLW either.

Of course!

You could probably get a JLF in there pretty easily using an S-plate.

I play a lot of different games, like sunset riders, street fighter, snow bros, etc but with my current joysticks I can't play fighter games :( Do you think I can play 4-way games with those sticks?
Thanks!

Lol, I mean changing the holes in the joystick :D

If your gonna try and fit in a Japanese style stick just keep in mind that they were originally intended for use in thin metal panels not 3/4" wood panels. In other words you will have to either mod the panel so the joystick sits closer to the top or mod the joystick with a longer shaft which would throw off the feel of the joystick from how it was intended to feel.
* personal opinion but if you go japanese go jlf, skip the ls32 for fighters its too hard to play on.

Thanks for the answer, if I use this http://www.focusattack.com/products/Sanwa-JLF%252dP1%252dS-Mounting-Plate.html (http://www.focusattack.com/products/Sanwa-JLF%252dP1%252dS-Mounting-Plate.html) I still have to mod the CP?

Oh, in that case I would recommend a drill… or a die grinder. ;)

Second photo has the IL logo diectly under the actuator.
Based on the shape of the handle and actuator, it looks like you have IL Compact sticks. (IL's version of the Happ Super)
The Happ Super Mounting diagram is here (http://na.suzohapp.com/joysticks/super_joy_e.htm).
Do you think I can play 4-way games with those sticks?
Pull the e-clip and flip the actuator to switch between 4-way and 8-way modes. Not as easy to switch as a JLW or LS-32, but it works.

While I think a stock JLF is already the best option for fighters, the stock engage and throw distances are a little long for other genres, especially shmups. I mod my JLF's to fix this, making it, IMHO, the best all-around stick:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,120301.msg1275796.html#msg1275796 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,120301.msg1275796.html#msg1275796)
I think my JLF's are great for 4-way games, but my main focus is on fighters, shmups, and console platformers. If you're a really die-hard Pac-Man fan, you might need a dedicated four way, but that's more of an "authentic feel" kind of thing. I think mine are perfectly capable as far as doing well in the game goes; I don't think you should need a specially shaped restrictor just to show you where the cardinal directions are.
If you stick with a stock JLF, it's a pretty decent all-around stick. The long engage and throw will only be especially bad for real "twitchy" shmups. For fighters, you will not be disappointed.

Agreed, I much prefer a JLF. I just mentioned the LS-32 as well, as it's probably the other most commonly used stick by high-level players.

Thanks, I managed to switch my joysticks to 8-way, they are a little messed up but they are very used :D I found that IL made some magnetic joysticks, maybe I can buy those.
I think that sanwa joysticks are too loose, maybe I'm used to european joysticks ;D

You probably are biased from being used to overstiff sticks. I would recommend modding for a little bit of more tension on the JLF though. I use two small nylon washers, very easy.
-
Maybe I will buy the JLF and see how it turns out on shooters, if it is really that bad I can mod them :D My problem now is, how do I use the JLF with a 3/4 plyboard?

A router is your friend.

Stock JLF's are best for fighters, horrible for shooters. It will be one of the best for shooters, and a fantastic all-around stick, with the mod, but be warned that it's pretty bad for shooters as stock.

Sorry, missed your question. You can either route a slot into the top of the cp board for the normal JLF mounting plate as in the link above, or use an s-plate to install from the bottom. I did to the top mounting method on my portable sticks, and I have to remove the top plexi to totally remove the stick. I'll be switching to an s-plate on future projects to make things more convenient.
Either way, be sure that the shaft will protrude the correct height from the top of the CP. Read slagcoin.com for details. I prefer the stock specified height; others prefer a custom height. You should be making a few quick and dirty test panels to play-test with all these different variables, especially button layout, before settling on a final panel.

You mean you want some - versus that there are some on the market.
