I have 3 minimus with terminal blocks all soldered up and ready to go :afro: Whats the news on this and the software?
-
Last I heard, the team members (Jon, Kevin, and Bruno) are preparing the rewards for the Kickstarter donors. :applaud:
Once all the donors receive their rewards, the team will release the KADE loader software.
Last I heard, that should be around the end of January/beginning of February time frame.
If that's too long to wait and you can use one of the preset keymaps from the older AVR Encoder firmware, you can find that firmware and directions on how to load it here (https://sites.google.com/site/degenatrons/controller-interfaces/usb-keyboard-encoder/resources).
Once the KADE releases, just put the AVR into programming mode and easily upgrade to the new, improved firmware.

Will his software allow me to use it on the ps3 (inside a stick)? or an Xbox 360?
-
PS3 - Yes
Original XBox - Yes
XBox 360 - I don't believe that it is supported at this time. Hardware ID issues IIRC.

I haven't even ordered my MinimusAVR yet, but will be thinking about trying to program it using the info linked above, if the new software isn't released by the time I've built my panel.
Where did you get your terminal blocks? What's the pin pitch?

I bought a batch of 6 MinimusAVRs to start with. I bought these terminal blocks which worked fine: http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-12-Poles-2-54mm-0-1-PCB-Universal-Screw-Terminal-Block-/400263584173?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:3160 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-12-Poles-2-54mm-0-1-PCB-Universal-Screw-Terminal-Block-/400263584173?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:3160)
The problem I am having is the consistency of the Minimus AVR. My first one went bad and lost its mind after about 8 hours of use. When I tried to reprogram it, it wouldn't take the programming.
My second one is working for several hours at a time, but it, too, is forgetting its programming. I installed the FLIP software on my virtual pinball so I can reprogram it. When I first program the chip, it fails the verification. If I try a second time, it works. It seems to fail over long periods of non-use, but running. I will replace it with a third one, but if the KADE is burdened with this kind of failure rate, it will be a long uphill battle. I'm thinking my machine might have a bad ground or some other problem, but I don't know. The one I gave away has worked flawlessly for well over 60-80 hours.

MTPPC: Sorry to hear about your unfortunate run of luck with the AVRs.
Everything I've seen points toward AVRs being pretty rugged.
Sharpfork posted on another board:
I had the thing completely wired wrong to the point where it got hot enough to discoloer the little piece of masking tape I put on it and it still works fine. Hell, Rodney even boiled one of the AVRs in water based black dye and it still works. These little buggers are tough!
I'd check both your ground and your wire routing/distances. If you have relays, solenoids, shaker motors or AC wiring too close to unshielded wires, the expanding and collapsing magnetic fields can induce a voltage spike.
Your problem may be similar to what Supafraud was posting here (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,129635.0.html) about his mini-pac resetting when he would press flipper buttons.

Degenatrons has some AVR Encoders already programmed (firmware upgrades effortlessly to KADE), labeled and soldered. If you don't have the AVR and terminals yet, and plan on only doing 1 or 2 AVRs, it will probably be less expensive to order from him. (PM him for details.)

Thanks, I will try that.
I did email him a day or so ago asking when KADEs will be available for people who missed the kiskstarter, no reply yet but I guess his inbox is full of KADE questions and he must be full on at the moment.

Jimmer - Thanks for your PM and we discussed getting one of the AVR's sent out to you with terminals. I'll make it up tomorrow and will be posted out on Monday.
We have just sent an update to our KickStarter backers about the production of rewards. Here's a link to that update - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kadevice/kade-connects-arcade-controls-to-computers-and-con/posts (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kadevice/kade-connects-arcade-controls-to-computers-and-con/posts)
We will be selling KADE after the KickStarter rewards are mailed out in February.

so what is this other board we would need to use on the 360/wii? I already have a pee-wii. can you wire those 2 together?
-
Got my minimusAVR today. Thanks degenatrons.
Plugged it in. Instantly recognised by Windows7. Connect B1 to Ground and got lots of zzzzzz's as wanted.
Highly recommended if you are in a hurry or want something cheaper than KADE.
You only miss out on KADEs larger terminals, and being able to unplug it from your panel.

I've got a problem though.
When I'm in notepad I can generated zzzzzzz's from the minimusAVR
but in MAME, when I go to the Input (this game) screen, it does not recognise the button press.
edit:
Problem solved. Minimus neds to be plugged in before MAME is opened. :applaud:
hmm should I delete this post or leave it for others it might help?
-
I say leave it. Sometimes I'll solve my own stupid problems and update the thread because you never know who it'll be useful to in the future.
