Post by: southpaw13 on January 08, 2013, 09:43:39 am
Hello, what is the best t-molding slot bit to buy and where do you think I might be able to get it?

Thanks,
-SP

usually the vendor selling you the t-molding can also sell you the router bit. I got mine from the same vendor when I did my cab.

I`m in the same place you are by the sound of it, I need a 1/16th slot cutter (1/4 inch shaft) cheapest i`ve found is about £30 , and considering i`ve already paid £40 for a router, £22 for the T moulding , with the cutter makes a total of £90 just to add 20ft of rubber edging , the PC and 19" monitor powering the whole thing only cost me £60 so it kinda stings

I couldn't find it in Australia, so I ordered the 1/16 from http://www.t-molding.com/store/home.php?cat=6 (http://www.t-molding.com/store/home.php?cat=6). Just remember that you need the cutter AND the arbor (the shaft that the cutter is bolted to)

You can also buy from http://groovygamegear.com (http://groovygamegear.com). Their t-molding and 1/16 cutter are cheaper than anywhere I have seen. They even have a cutter and arbor combo for $19.95 (approx £12)

I got the blade/arbor combo from Groovy Game Gear.  Awesome.  Big thing, and this sounds silly but I've seen a LOT of folks screw this up, make sure the blade is on the arbor correctly.  If it's backwards, it will still KINDA cut the wood.  But it will be slow and make a LOT of smoke.

To add to Slippyblade's comments...also make sure that the router is FLAT on the piece of wood. On my practice piece of wood, my router was slanted a little and it obviously didn't cut the groove in the exact middle
