I'm building a mame unit, and want lots of controls, so I'm going with the Williams Defender / Stargate cocktail cabinet style. I've searched high and low for the plans for this particular cab, to no avail. Anyone know where I can find them, and if not, does anyone have access to one of these machines?
Thanks in advance for any help or guidance. This is my first Mame cabinet project and I'm totally psyched about it. Someone here told me "when the urge to do this hits you, it hits you hard." I've spent most of the last week obsessively planning this. Just need these plans and I'm starting... :)

Not sure where you are located, but just saw this on ebay.
DEFENDER COCKTAIL CLASSIC VIDEO ARCADE GAME

Good luck

Oh my god, I would never ever consider buying that beautiful machine and making a single modification to it. That thing is in unbelievable shape. That's why I need the plans. I need to MAKE one... I'm chomping at the bit.
I actually want to create a cross between two cocktail cabs:

and this:
-
I would hope not! I was thinking you could contact the person who is selling if you happen to be close by and go measure the thing or see who buys it and maybe they will be close by! Good luck.

Maybe just chop the bottom off the defender plans and weld a leg assembly like what's on the space invaders unit to the bottom of it? I think that'd be a sweet looking cocktail. And I can actually fit a lot in terms of controls if I make the control panel cutaway even a couple inches wider.
I like it...
If I had plans, I'd be cutting wood tomorrow. To anyone willing to help at all with my ridiculously newbie-esque questions and especially tracking down plans, you'll get major props on the site I'll be creating to document the progress.
Back to Google...

SpaceCadet,
Like 90% of the machines you dig on ebay, it's in California. I'm in Minnesota. :(
-
I live in San Diego and this guy lives in LA.... maybe I could drive up there as I would very much like to get ahold of plans for that cocktail.
I have contacted the seller and asked about him taking down dimensions for me. If he could do me that favor I will be sure to let you guys know. I will draw up some nice detailed plans for them on post them on my website along with the rest of the plans I have on there.

if you're willing to do that, I think you'd be doing this whole community a great service. I haven't seen a single mame cockail table built to that design, probably the most intricate of the cocktail designs, and I think it'll make for a whole new area of mame cabs.
Most importantly, it allows for a very wide control panel, something all other cocktails lack, which eliminates the need for adding a third control panel to the side (an idea that I feel removes the elegance from the cocktail.)
I'm excited. Do you have a digital camera? It'd be great to have good pics of the inside construction as well as views from all sides, under the CP, angles, all that. You know the deal...
If you can come up with plans that are comprehensive enough to do a build, I'll definitely be the first one to donate a little cash for your site. I wanna be the first to build it. :)

i can help you guys out. i just picked up a robotron cocktail(converted to cameltry) which is damn near the exact same design. the only difference i know of is that the stargate/defender cab uses a smaller monitor, the robotron has a 19". the design would make a sweet horizontal mame cab. give me a day or two and i'll get some deminsions worked up.
if you want i can post some pics, but i know edgedamage already has some up in his joust restoration and robotron restoration threads in the project announcements forum. he's also posted measurments for a joust cocktail which is a pretty cool design as well.
-
I looked through that Joust/Robotron cocktail restoration thread and don't see dimensions anywhere... just pictures. Where are they?
-
check this thread (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=11366) it has a link to some pics edge took when he was measuring the cab. i thought he had detailed plans already done, but i think birdtales is working on them. sorry for the false alarm.
-
YES!!! That's the cab...
*drooling... drooling...*
Someone is working on the plans for this? Is this someone I could e-mail and see what they have so far? Oh man oh man oh man...
Give me more good news. Mondays aren't supposed to be this good. :)
-
CRSDAWG,
Robotron cocktail, yes. Joust cocktail, no. I think those pictures of Edge's are of the corner mounted control paneled joust cocktail. The style specifically that I want plans for is the on in the first picture of this thread with the curved CP cutaway. (defender/stargate/robotron)

yeah, i was just mentioning it as a side note. he also has a roby cocktail as well that is pictured these post, here (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=11117) and here (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=11326).
i'll post some shots of mine later tonight in the project announcements forum and try to work up the deminsions tomorrow.
-
CRS, Im gonna take the pile of pictures I have of that cabinet, pull them into illustrator and make a bunch of arrow lines for places that would be the most helpful to have the measurements for. If you get started before I have that ready, but all means continue. Let me know what format you'd like those graphics in and I'll e-mail them to you if you drop me your e-mail address. Mine is in my profile, I believe...
Immense thanks,
Cory

Mushmouth I've got CRDawg's dimensions he sent me. I'm gonna go through them tonight and hopefully be able to fully understand it.
I took at look at Birdtales dimension pictures he posted and they make almost no sense... They are just zoomed in pictures of the end of his tape measure showing him measuring certain parts of the cabinet....but they are zoomed in so much you have abosolutely no idea what part of the cabinet he is measuring any the pics. Oh well.
-
Jakobud, that's also because Bird's pictures were of the joust corner-to-corner cocktail. Totally different beast. The extreme close-ups made even THAT deduction hard to figure out. lol

Wait are you saying they have measured these cabinets and posted dimensions or what? I don't seem to see anything about that on the pages...

There are a few cocktails that have more control panel space than the William's ones.
Atari Football. (More of an "Island" game though, since you stand).
The Cinematronics ones. A 24"x8" control panel on each side of the screen.
