Title: Identifying power plug on Electrohome G07-CBO
Post by: Entropy42 on January 06, 2013, 01:05:36 pm
I have an Arkanoid Cocktail that I am trying to fix up, and this 2 wire cable comes off of the monitor and goes into a plug that does not mate with anything in the cabinet.  So I have no idea what the top and bottom pins are expecting.  Really don't want to wire it up backwards and toast the monitor.
The first picture below is just a close up of the cable coming out of the monitor, and the 2nd pic is a shot of the end of the plug.  Given that just about every connector in this cab has been hacked off and electrical taped back together, I don't have too much faith that the plug is any sort of standard.

I'm assuming one of these 2 wires is hot, and the other is neutral.  Can anyone give me some guidance as to which is which?

the 2 wire's in your pic are the power plug
now rember it is a hot chassic..which mean's u use an isolation transformer
when using it and servicing it
they were not really :power-phased: ie white/black

Are you saying that it doesn't matter which side of the AC goes into that plug?  Is in, its impossible for me to plug it in "backwards"?

no dont do that. I'll look at my Galaga when I get home. I thought I had a pic on my phone but I cant find it. Just wait a couple hours.

hi
this simple reason they are both black tell's u they are not phased
but if u find 1 with a white and black wire then that 1 is phased
follow it.
if u are that concered i will look up g07/g08 for u
or if it really matter's u could pm rickn he was the eng on that team

the circle plug is the negative. the "half moon" is the positive. I followed the wires all the way down to the iso xformer just to be sure.

So positive and negative being black and white, respectively.  Correct?

Thanks for looking it up for me.

I cant go by colors, someone may have wired it up with what ever colors they had. just follow the leads on the ISO transformer. If in doubt post a picture of the leads of your isolation transformer and I'll tell you which one.

Thanks. There is a Williams Defender iso transformer in my cab, that previously powered the monitor.  The schematic for it is the attachment below.  From what I can tell, the 2 AC lines intended for the monitor are the 2 Violet/Yellow wires coming off of the transformer at pin 9 and 10.  I can't tell which of them would be positive or negative though.  If I had to guess, I would say 9 is positive.

It will still work if you wire it up backwards, it won't toast, however there can be safety concerns. http://www.phillylicensedelectrician.com/polarity-matters-in-ac-wiring/ (http://www.phillylicensedelectrician.com/polarity-matters-in-ac-wiring/)

Although the isolation transformer completely removes continuity of the monitor's AC power from the mains, so I am not sure if it actually does matter.

Thanks for all the help everyone.  Even if it turns out it didn't matter, I still appreciate all the explanations and the piece of mind.

maybe this helps:

The black wire on the ISO goes up to the half moon connector, and the white goes up to the circle side.
