From the SHOP manual:

Error 12 means more than one coin switch is stuck closed at the same time.

The Coin Mechanism!! I'd have never guessed. I have it set to free play and would have never looked there. I've unplugged the coin mechanism and it is playing again! Thanks Ken!! I n :applaud:eed to get one of those manuals.  :applaud:

Well shucks, celebrated too soon. I've completely isolated the coin mechanism and I'm still intermittently getting Error 12. I’m starting to suspect the Service Switch. I was alternating between 'SERV' and 'ON' when the fault first occurred, adding and playing 45's. Does this sound plausible?  ???

The service switch has been known to have problems in this vintage of machine. When I encounter a suspected service switch problem, I give it a quick spray of contact cleaner and work the switch back and forth several times. Naturally I do this with the machine's power cord unplugged from the wall outlet since most contact cleaner sprays are flammable nowadays.

Another possibility is bad solder joints at the connector header pins on the power supply board, the Central Control Computer board, and the Mechanism Control board.
