Title: New....well, sorta new....AdvanceMAME
Post by: Gray_Area on January 04, 2013, 10:01:57 pm
03-01-2013  Released AdvanceMAME v1.2. Still based on MAME 0.106 but with the new graphics effect XBR and various bugfixes.

If the alpha designation is not an error, I'm wondering what may be coming.....

Mmmmmmmmmm.........

Andrea said on the ADV forum that he was mustering up the gumption to re-do AdvanceMAME. Looks like something's in the works.

Been reading about Andrea going to do something with AdvMame. This is certainly a good sign.

I can't wait to try it out.  :applaud:

wondering if CPS 3 is included.

What advantages does advance mame offer over mame?

Me, I'm just hoping that DOS builds will be available for future versions as well.

Once you understand that 'text modelines' means 'enter certain values....here', it means you set it about once, and you get native display without further hullaballoo. Also, it intelligently selects modelines on the fly. And there are some slight visual and  performance features. Of course, graphics adapter compatibility is key - generally Nvidia to about the 6800; ATI not sure. It would be interesting if this changed, though unlikely that it will. He's mainly doing it for himself, and those of us who dig and appreciate its function will benefit by being able to play some games that have been added to/updated/etc, for example Donkey Kong and Robotron.

a DOS build would make a particular project I'm working on very, very easy.  Nothing boots into an app faster than DOS.

I'm not really familiar with AdvanceMAME, but given the description above, and considering I'd run either in XP64, why would I want to use this instead of GroovyMAME?

If it remains XP32-based, you wouldn't. If it doesnt, you might because you essentially set one, very short, line in the configuration file (v, h, and p clocks - no ridiculous figuring of timings and ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, though there is that option in ADVMAME if you desire), and off you go. The other caveat is video card compatibility, which probably won't change. But anything I want to play I can more than get by with my geforce 6800.
