Hi there, I recently got a Golden Tee Complete Greenboard, wuhuu :)
But my problem is that it will not, boot up the game.
Video about the problem (http://youtu.be/YadAx4LADfk)
I have read that it maybe can be a HDD problem, therefore I bought a new HDD from eBay and I had also tried with a HDD made of a CHD rip of the disk. The same error occurs.
Is it possible to get any error code out of the board?
Any help is much appreciated.
My Power Supply is a new one from gatorcade.com running on 230V (Europe/Denmark) and measured to be 5.10V (tried with 5.20V also with no luck)
Also tried to have the HDD powered by another source than the board, with no difference.
-
Has been a while since i had a golden tee fore, but HDD hung up on initial screen (well before modem check). It never rebooted and rechecked modem. It passes the BIOS and goes into screen showing version, boardset. Are you sure the security chips are correct and match? Your system is detecting board correctly just something with the security causes it to reboot or stall.
-
Seller told me that it worked before he shipped it. I can post a picture of the security chips, if it helps

hi
2.09
is the lastest firmware to allow it to take any harddrive
if u copyed the harddrive >master to slave< type
that there is your first problem
from your screen shot it is hanging in the final boot stage
your unit WILL boot beyound modem..i have proven this
the secrity chip is called twice..once at start of boot second at game load
u are simply not getting to the hard drive
if it was the secerity chip it would boot then tell u the :key-code is wrong:
with a big red screen,u are simply not getting there from here
turn unit off re-seat all chip's
if your power supply is out of range
again it will not tell u until final boot >just after stage3< which btw it should never get to,this is what tell's me u have a popo hard-drive,or crap s/w
easy test
copy a good hard drive..not in master/slave but rather in cable-select mode
then try it
and or,and this work's
plug in a cd-rom
they are made to boot from the rom first..no matter what mode it is set in
ie: master/slave
ed
-
do you say that I should just plug in a CD-ROM drive without a disc in it ? in the other IDE port ?
Tried to take all of the removable chips out gave the legs a cleaner and put them back in, without any difference.
-
hi
yes that is exactley what i said
it will tell me the trick of the tail as it is said
ed
-
it's not quite the same issue as i had... yours looks like it loads, then reboots and hangs.
mine would just hang (like yours after the reboot) first time every time.
cd-rom connected to the board/different harddrive solved this issue
EDIT:
perhaps this a regional issue.
U53 - G4C-US-U/©2005 IT, inc.
i know usa and canada have different security chips and software. if your hard drives are Canada and your region chip is USA it won't work. (IT isn't always the best about verboseing issues)
does somebody here have a GTC install disk for USA? (since that's the board-set he has) doing a "re-install upgrade" should fix the drive if that's it.
-
hi
ya i was comming to that
just wanted to get a few fact's straight :)
but as a rule with u53 the board will boot then biatch at u :wrong-key:,etc etc
from there it is an easy fix
this board is not getting past boot process
3rd stage ?,that as rule mean's it cannot find a harddrive, which is the
reason i am leaning toward's harddrive..
it is because when ppl copy them they use windows
which mean's master/slave,which is totaly wrong for a cable select mode
with 2.09 it olny fixed the dif in paration size >mbr-record<,from maxtor to any other drive's,this is a big fix for them as it not apply's to gt's but also buck's
ed
-
If I put any of my Harddrives in cable select mode, the board will not recognize it, it just counts to 34 or so, and resets via watchdog.
I then tried to make the harddrive from the chd, with the hdd in cableselect, it didn't make any difference. Next thing is to find a cdrom drive to connect to it.
-
hi
any cdrom will do it
ed
-
Connected a CD-ROM drive, actually a DVD-ROM drive, but it seemed to find it.

Sorry for the 'out of focus'
Not much change.
Do anyone have a image file of a Golden Tee Complete CD/DVD ? Something it can boot from. I don't know how it works. But guess it maybe could help to install something again ?
Someone told me that it could be the 3DFX card ? Because the board first start to use it, when loading the game, what do people answer to that ?
-
hi
i have them all
but i will need the s/w rev as there are many
and key code..because my s/w is for canadian golden tee's
and the key code is different, now i have reloaded golden tee's
using master/slave,but to get them working i had to leave a cdrom with it
nothing in the cdrom but it wanted it and would hang until i plugged 1 in
ed
-
is the s/w rev. the ones on the loading screen in the first video ?

SW #40600
Keycode 40600
Build 18 Sept. 2005
-
hi
yes
from your last pic i can just about make out your key #
ed
-
ed
What is your meaning about it, being the 3DFX that is the problem ?
-
hi
3dfx is a video card
they do not cause boot problem's.
with the green board that is not getting past third stage it just tell's me it
is not reading the mbr of the harddrive.
another common problem is key code error
u have to understand that what u are working with is fat16/linux
the mbr is written in fat16 the s/w is linux
and if u are doing a copy of it in window's it will auto to ntfs or fat32
u have to fource window's to fat16
if it is the orignal hd ? then it's mbr is gone,if it is a replacement
then u might look into changing the boot rom to 2.09 thus allowing u to run any mbr
ed
-
I do have the 2.09 boot rom.
The harddrives I have made, is through Windows7 with CHDMAN 0.47 + one I bought of eBay(dunno how it was made). All with the same error.
My thoughts is just that I see the "bios" with system check, and that graphics aren't coming from the GFX Card are they ? And just before the Game will load with the intro screen, as it should load some graphics, it resets.
EDIT:
The picture is running through JAMMA connector -> CGA/EGA to VGA Converter -> PC Monitor.
If I use the 3DFX Card -> CGA/EGA to VGA Converter -> PC Monitor, I get a black screen.

hi
i will be going to my wharehouse i will do some chks
ed

Hi
Any new thoughts and ideas?
Did any have the image cd file?
-
None?

i will be in at the start of the week,if u can wait ?
ed
-
Yes, thanks Ed
-
Any support ? :)
-
unfortunately the only cd's I have are canadian and aparently won't work with the USA version... I think.
...unless they just say that...
-
hi
on the gt it is the u53 holding it back >key/country code<
i am like u all mine are canada, but all is not lost i hook up with a guy with the usa stuff, once i get it i will up-load to drropbox
and as there is no rescue disk u will need the complete .img from the hd i do
place the jumper's in the .cfg mode i explain to u,do not be a hero and change them
u will then run the .img right in
i will do up a readme as soon as i get this stuff
patinace please

Today, I got another 3DFX card and a original hdd, and with alot of testing, they didn't seem to make any difference what so ever.
Do anyone know what the u26 SB5 chip does on the board? I found a bit of rust in some of the leg holes for the chip. Did a bit of cleaning with no change tho, but maybe its what causes the problem?
Found this site
http://www.weinerd.com/Service%20Bulletins/goldenteefore.htm
Another thing. When holding down START at bootup, the D20 led blinks 9 short, then 1 long, and repeat that sequence, while the screen is black.
Hope anyone has an idea.

Hi Ed
Any updates?
-
hi
9 short 1 long is as a rule
u53 is south
there is a trick
let me look my note's up
u will need to make sure it's interface 74ls373 ? is fully tied into the board
as they have been known to come lose, and cause that exact fault
that is acroding to macro from its gamming
the us53 bin i have is for the canadian s/w
red dot
i do have a few green's left
let me see if i can get the bin
but they are older rev's,again s/w strap

Did some measuring today, and measure 5.04V on all loose IC's exept the U26 SB5 chips
To me, theese measurements sounds a bit odd.

Do anyone have a data sheet for that one ? Or could measure it on their working board?
-
Hi Ed, did you have anything for the error code?
-
Great convo guys! I have been searching for a copy of the upgrade cd for GT Complete (Canada preferably). Ed would it be possible to get a copy?
As for your issue mickkn, sounds really flakey. If the board was functional prior to it being shipped to you and the only difference is the cabinet, thats going to be real difficult one to troubleshoot. Fortunately sounds like you have some very knowledgable people here giving you help and advice. I have a canadian gt 2005 and am trying to work out a deal to buy a gt complete. If I can help in any way please let me know!
Question to anyone: I know that the U53 chip is an Atmel AT90S2313 but does anyone know what the U15 chip is?
-
Solved my problem by buying another Complete in Red. But the Green board just seem to have a problem booting. My concern right now is, if it's getting enough current. The original PSU I got is a 200W from Gatorcade. Must people say that I need something above 500W but don't have a 5V adjustable PSU to try with. Tried with a ATX 500W PSU, but it only output 4,7V when connected, and the board gives me the low Power error.
-
Well it really sucks that you had to buy a new board after all that you invested in the first one, but i am glad to hear you're up and running. Must be great to have all 29 courses! Are you parting out the non functional board? I have been looking to buy a green board or two for spare parts. Let me know if you'd be interested in selling it!
-
I think your issue may have been the boot ROM. I think the last version is 3.2 or 3.5....3.something anyways. But, it's supposed to fix some issues with hard drives and booting. i never tested it out as i went a different direction with my fix.

Yeah, thought about it, but don't know how much I can charge for it, I live in Denmark/Europe. So there is also some shipping to take care of.

Has anybody figured out a fix for this issue? I have 4 testable boards (2 bad video cards) but I get to the initializing screen and it never boots the game.
This is a loose set up, I can run the tests with no problem (except phone, card and sign, obviously). I can also get to the update screen if I have a DVD rom hooked up.
I have a few HDDs (5.00. (x2) 5.06 LR?, 1.x and 4.x) either way, no matter what combos I try, I don't get past the initializing screen.
The boards have a range of boot roms (1.07, 2.04 and 2.08, I don't have 2.09). I also have some SB3 and SB5 chips but I can't remember what those do. I also have G44 and G45 chips. I don't get to a red screen that would indicate that I have the wrong drive/chip combos (as it should).
I really don't want to spend $125 an hour to have IT play with the boards.
Does anybody think they can help me??
I have the JAMMA hooked up to all five needed buttons and a video converter (I've tried straight from card as well). I have the +5, -5 and +12 wrapped in electrical tape. Like a dumbass, I taped them all together at first and that's how I burnt out one of the video cards, but thank god I noticed fast enough before I damaged the board.
-
to start with
bootrom egal 2.09 fixes all hard drive problems
second slave the cdrom for god's sake
third if the board is reporting under-voltage..? guess what ?
4th secirty key is >u53< MUST match the hard drive build ..ie os u are running or trying to run
5th if the hard drive will not work in windows xp >slave< u can bet it is beat
as the o/s linux will never load to it
6th the dif between green and red build boards is simple
u53/u93,and the power plug
1=full atx
2=full jama
about that simple
notes
u can remove the modem board
u can remove the rs232 chip
there is a full wack of cold solder joints that will cause alot of these problems
u must look at the >bus decorder chips< very very colse to see pins lifted
look right around the modem/secirty chip/trackball interface >bus-interface chips< for pins that have lifted, and or are not >tight< down
now if the powersupply is diping from 5.2 to 4.7
put your finger on the big ass xlink chip
i bet it is heating up..its the video drive pre interface chip..>controller<.
from no red screen on boot u have gone by the >key< chk-sum
and are in linux >game-mode<..if video drops ? i would plug in a normal game monitor to c if i have game or not ? if so guess what ?
blown video card,to do this on any of them is easy if u know the jama harness

I updated the thread I started with a copy of the new bootrom. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,129311.msg1384459.html#msg1384459 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,129311.msg1384459.html#msg1384459)
if you can find an old 27C010 chip you can erase it and burn this new eagle boot rom. The original eagle chip is a "write once" chip and can't be erased.
