Title: Need recommendations to finish out my CP
Post by: TurboJugend on December 29, 2012, 03:32:50 pm
I'm working on a 2 player cabinet.  I already have an Ipac-2, OptiPac, 1 Mag-stick Plus, 1 UltraStick 360, and several buttons.  I still need to buy a spinner and track ball, but I am feeling overwhelmed by all the choices and I'm a little unsure as to what will be compatible with my OptiPac that I already own.  Also, I'd like to be able to use the track ball as a mouse.  Can someone please point me in a good direction?  The U-track seems nice (a little pricey tho).  I have also looked at the Groovy-TB, but I can't tell how hard it would be to hook up to the OptiPac.  As for the spinner, I've been looking at the Spintrack from Ultimarc and the TurboTwist 2.  Advice???

Sell the I-PAC and the MagStick. Buy another U360 and hook up your buttons to the U360s. Buy octagonal restrictors and stiff springs for the U360s too. Sell the OptiPac and buy a USB trackball.

Won't I need the OptiPac for a spinner?

If you use a Mini-Pac Opti with harness (http://www.ultimarc.com/minipac.html) in place of the I-Pac and OptiPac, you have plug and play compatibility with the UTrak and SpinTrak -- both hook up at the same time and share the x-axis.

What games do you want to play with a spinner? Most of the time you can use a trackball for spinner games.

You could, but they dont play very good that way either.

Spinners are very small anyways.  You can mount them almost anywhere, and use them with ease.   Not so easy for trackball space however.

Arkanoid, Blasteroids, Tempest, Tron...  I know 720 had a rotary joystick, but I assume it would work with a spinner?

I already have the Ipac and the Optipac though.  And I *just* got the Optipac as a gift.  I feel compelled to use it.  Maybe not the best reasoning, but it is what it is...

:dunno  There's always the next build.   ;D

Seriously, though, you should have no problems with using the Opti-Pac with the UTrak and SpinTrak.

The TT2 (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=86&products_id=268) could also connect to the Opti-Pac IIRC. (Order a "Slave" unit.)
