Over the past few years I've missed some (probably) good monitors at the local university surplus auction. An NEC XM29 for sure, and a different model NEC that I think was also digital. Though they have online bidding, I think I neglected to bid on the XM29, and I think I was out-bid on the other. $35, if I remember, which surprised me. Given that I don't need any, as well as have a beautiful but un-used Mitsubishi 31" analog multisync, I'd kind of blown off looking. But...now and then I've given it a gander....and look what I came up with last week!
A Mitsubishi XC-3730C. (Made in April 1999 - this seems a common time for presentation monitors.) Not just digital. This baby's range is 40-120 hz, 15-85 khz !! And with a stunning picture.
Oh yeah, I got this for five bucks.

Great find, greater monitor. I pretty much abandoned using my MAME cab after I got my first big presentation monitor.
I think 6500k grows on you after a while.
Have you tried watching video on this thing? 4:3 HD content looks amazing in 720p, especially live action stuff like UFC/Pro Wrestling. Older TV shows with HD releases too.

Just a quick note that the vid is definitely NSFW (language! You perverts!)
-
Nice! I used to have a couple of 27" like that and they really are awesome for DIY folks like us.

You're so lucky. :hissy:

Pervert? It was profane, but I don't recall anything obscene. I tell ya, though, that belch surprises me, and just geeks me out, every time That was a masterpiece.
Yeah, since this one is 37 inches, you either need to build a large box, or de-case it. That's why the "well, sort of..." part. I don't know what I'm going to do with it.
@JackBurton: I haven't watched anything on it. Given its size and heft, it's staying in the foyer for the moment.

Indeed. I bid on it by the picture, and didn't know whether it worked till I got it home. I almost didn't bring it home, because I couldn't fit it in my car. But one of the guys there, who remembers me winning other monitors over the years, suggested to put it upside-down and backwards in the trunk. It was mostly wedged in there, and though I did use straps, I was surprised how immobile it was by itself.

Cursing every 5th word, only make one look like an mindless punk. The redneck accent doesnt help matters much.
As for monitors, Im still a CRT fan.
However, Dot pitch being finer, is exactly what you Dont want, when trying to display old-school arcade games accurately.
The older the arcade game, the larger the dot pitch... as that was the technology at the time.
The larger the dot pitch, means that the shadowmasks are different. The older masks bled light, and nearby pixels blended together. You got color mixing, as well as more rounded and blended edges... instead of sharp jagged corners.
Unfortunately, its hard to find evidence of this, because most classics have had their monitors replaced at least once, if not more so. Also, its my belief, that certain games were shipped out with monitors that were intentionally tweaked to be out of focus.. to further blending.
Finally, another thing about the older monitors and their display differences.. were color variances. Due to the mask lines being larger, it effected the output colors. The monitors ranges may also have been different as well. Again, resulting in colors being completely different than what you see on a more modern CRT.

Ain't for you, fool. I am that way all the time, and I have more fun with myself than anyone in the world. Take a hint, yo.

Yeah, I would like to see an original 19 inch monitor. Don't think I have in the nine years I've been interested in games. The rest is old hat for anyone who's followed a quarter of your commentary on video display.
-
What are you guys talking about, never seeing an original 19" monitor? Pretty much any $200 19" beater machine you buy will be running a G07.

I think you are referring to my post? if so, dude you totally misunderstood me! I absolutely got nothing against profanities, I just let others know that it probably is NSFW [Not Safe For Work] and then in brackets () I have stated the reason that it is because of the language and not let's say nudity for those "pervertS<--S" (notice the S at the end) that associate the NSFW abbreviation with something more raunchy! That's all.

Actually no. I dont care if people swear once in a while. I do, but not very often anymore, because Ive learned to control myself, and Ive learned of the root reasons why I felt I had to talk and act like a child, and the negativity produced by incessant cursing. I can express myself, and emotions, with actual meaningful content, rather than mindless empty expletives.
For many people, these words are like a crutch. They either dont have any vocabulary... or they simply cant control their emotions enough to get through a single expression gracefully, without tying a huge pile of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- on the end of it.
Swearing can be fun, and funny, ...or just natural, such as when a brick lands on your foot.
But the thing is, when you cant even spit out a single ---smurfing--- sentence, without at least one curse word in it... It just grates on the Stoopeed-Ohh-Meeter. I felt like I was losing IQ points by just listening, and I couldnt even make it to the half way point.
But then also, you too Mimic, realize that its not a great example for children. And why would you feel like that? And are you honestly going to say that his video was actually tolerable? You didnt get annoyed at all? Some people are like toxic clouds. They spew garbage all over the environment... and all others have to deal with the foul smell, that they create.
And to be fair, maybe around age 11, I was cursing like an angry drunken sailor, pretty much non stop. I was put in my place, by others than my parents, and I eventually realized it was a bad habit, childish, and showed immaturity, and lack of control.
Gray, Give yourself, and others, some respect. Try challenging yourself not to swear an entire week vocally. Then another week, neither verbally nor in-your-head "internal word substitution" if you must.. Heck, just start small, like a single 10 min block. :P
-
@TOK: I don't know as I've seen one in the last several years. The cabs were original, but I'm not sure about the monitors. Maybe.
@mimic: I was just being pedantic about word choice. No worr-aes!
@X: Um, yes mother dear.

Have to liven up the thread. ---fudgesicle---!
**I don't give homage to anything really, but the latter events in this thread have gotten me Carlin-minded. I'm sure he would've approved.
