I'm sure most people are aware of the ebay auction a week or so ago?
Where the Fix it Felix Jr. Arcade Machine went for $20,000
Since then, Everything about Fix it Felix Jr.
Has went dead.
So i ask? Any news about the Game being obtained, cracked etc?
Anyone working on a port of it themselves?
I'm still eager to get this game running in my cabinet! ;D
-
Well I doubt anyone paid $20K for it just so they could crack the software and get Disney's lawyers after them.
My money is still on the units self destructing after a certain date.
-

I don't see a purpose to that. It's not like there are trade secrets in that code.

But unless Disney is making money on it, they would rather hide it or destroy it.

I think you guys are way overvaluing a tiny handful of promotional materials.

You may be the only one who thinks it's funny? :lol

Don't get me wrong. It would be cool to have the game if it actually is a full game. I haven't seen any actual evidence that it is a full game yet. I have seen a couple of people claim that they have played it but I have also seen a lot of other claims that hold no water. Who knows which ones may actually be true?
I don't think Disney cares enough to build an Inspector Gadget self destruction timer into these things. I don't think it's some super dual encrypted software on what was described as a DIY PC build from hardware configs that hasn't been common since 1998. I don't think anything in this hobby is worth $20,000.
This is a very odd situation. I am holding out for actual evidence rather than anecdotal.
-
It is an actual game. 39 levels i believe? And even a kill screen.
I agree with you though, I don't believe in the self destruct.
encrypted? Maybe??
Agreed not worth $20,000 !

Just wanted to make sure you guys knew this existed:
http://disney.go.com/games/play3/?content=2006061#/games/play3/&content=2006061 (http://disney.go.com/games/play3/?content=2006061#/games/play3/&content=2006061)
It's a playable Fix it Felix Jr., I think in flash. Not sure how same/different it is from the actual cabinet they sold, but maybe you can find a way to run this in your cabs in the meantime.

Thanks bro, We already know.
It would suck in a cabinet. It is encrypted. Cannot be ripped.
And has to run in a web browser with a internet connection
-
Yeah, I just checked it out and it isn't just one .swf but several. Maybe if you downloaded all the .swf files used you can format it to a larger screen with a custom webpage, which you could make fullscreen to hide the URL bar and browser stuff. For me though, I didn't really enjoy it - it's kind of like a bad version of ice climber. Is the cabinet version more fun?
-
We are talking about a company that sues children hospitals for painting Disney characters on the walls without their permission. So for the game to have a death switch wouldn't surprise me.
-
If i had $20,000 lying around? to throw at a Arcade Machine. I wouldn't worry about Disney's lawyers.
Anyways. I started this thread to see if there was any news about the game being acquired.
Or a viable alternative?
Not a thread about how the game sucks, Doesn't suck, lawyers blah blah blah ETC ...
The other threads about the game, Became full of that muck.
Probably now why they are all abandon.
-
I am sure that for 20.000 you could find a guy who wants to program a game like that.
For 20.000 i'd buy a whole gameroom though, thats around 20 machines
-
I say we pay someone like "Sjaak" to make us a copy of the game with their voodoo programing magics.

The nemesis could be loosely based off of Will Ferrel, and be named "Waste-It-Wayne"?

I am sure that for 20.000 you could find a guy who wants to program a game like that.
Now that got my attention ;D
But seriously, if there's enough interest and everyone makes a donation, I could certainly develop a pc version of the game.
-
I would not mind donating at all. Maybe later we can get Turbo Time, Hero's Duty and Sugar Rush. Sugar Rush can probably be a Mario Kart mod..

Great how much of a donation do you need? I'm in!
Please a vertical version! :applaud:

I'm interested too.

I'm good for $25 for a final version.
-
 I like where this is going
I got money for this!

Sounds to me like we need to head to...
kickstarter.com
-
Pretty sure trying to make a kickstarter for an unlicensed game based on a Disney product is a great way to lose everything you ever owned or will own.

I was thinking the same thing...

I don't care what it's name is? FIX IT FRANKLIN?
Doesn't even have to have a name.
For all i care. As long as the game play is the same.
So can we get this rolling?
I'm in for the donation!

Go get a copy of game maker and start learning to build your own. Should be a fun project. That's kinda what Sjaak did when he wanted his own copy of PBR.
Speaking of, Sjaak, any traction on yours? Should I keep making skins? Inquiring minds man! They want to know!
-
Well, we could all learn game maker and try and work together on the game....or someone already skilled in it and part of the "cause" can do it for us. With us providing donations....Be it cash donations or electronics pertaining to the arcade hobby.
I for one want this game badly, the flash game is fun but lacking incredibly.
-
I'm FIX IT FELIXED out !
I have been on this, Ever since the Arcade Game was put out.
I have offered donations to get a alternative/solution done.
I work 40 hrs a week and sometimes more.
And a 3 year old.
I just don't have the time to learn code to make one.
I wish i did!
I'm going to sit back a year or so?
And see if the real one leaks?
If not O well.
At this point im just over it.
Seems like i am the only one who is interested in it/was.
Peace out.

Well, I count about a half dozen other people who are saying they are interested. I think one of the issues is that it is a little bit of a novelty game, while many people wold love to have it, I have some real questions about how long before the novelty wears off. Another wall is life, for everyone. Pretty sure most of us have jobs and kids that take precedence over hobbies. When the hobby stops being about fun then my guess is that people get out of it, or take a break.

With MAME machines, couldn't you say the same thing about most of the games? For me anyways (as I was never part of the arcade generation) it would be no more of a gimmick game than most of the ones I encounter on my gamelists.....
Also not many game you can play after just watching a full featured movie based exactly on the thing!
-
if somebody makes a fake one the market will become flooded with fake ones and you'll never find a real one, seen that plenty of times before... (people exploiting the desire to play the game for profit will blatantly lie about how genuine their item is leading to others actually thinking it's genuine etc.)
-
The problem with having someone code one is you'll have to pay them in advance. Nobody is dumb enough to think the MAME community is going to pay for the game after someone has put it out there. It always gets dropped on the net and stolen.

Well, let's do a headcount. How many of you are interested in a clone of the Fix it Felix jr. game. And how many are still interested if they have to donate $25 (beforehand) for the time I will be spending on research?
And what would you like to have in the game? I'm thinking of a couple of things:(http://www.xs4all.nl/~hansolo1/wir/image 155.png)
- Vertical or horizontal?
- Low resolution for crt screens
- High resolution with some hlsl shaders (scanlines, glow, etc) for lcd screens
- Kill screen
- Same functionality as the flash game (the one on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/WreckItRalph/app_419450928095726), not the one on the disney site).
-
Oh come on guys, if you're going to put all the time into coding a new game... make it something that's actually unique and interesting, instead of the derivative game Disney threw together. Make a contest where everyone pitches in $25 and their game idea. Then have the community vote.

Seconded
And a Sjack Guarantee that you will do your best!

Well if you guys are serious about it you might post on KLOV too. There are people on there who have already built dedicated Fix it Felix cabinets.

Of all the versions I have played, (imo) the full version on the iPad is by FAR the best. The free iPad version isn't quite right either. When I had it, it only went up so many levels and then repeated.
The Flash versions on Disney and Facebook miss things like the jump animation between the windows and Ralph throws bricks super chaotically. On the iPad the levels get harder and ramp up to include the birds later and include more screens to get to the top.
I would be in for a vertical, iPad-like one for $25 for sure.

I am in 100% agreement with 34k, the full ipad version is the best so for, Still needs the "I'm gonna wreck it" audio sample though
I'll toss in $25 for something close to that

Hey, its Rick, the guy who re-created the FIFjr arcade artwork for your cabs. :) Cool idea you all have, hope to see it done and as close to the actual version. I will be watching this thread closely as I am sick of playing the web version in my cab.. LOL Some advice, I would for sure not charge to have it.. just create it, distribute it for free and put your "code name" hidden in there somewhere so everyone knows you created it. You will be proud enough for creating it I think that reward itself is worth it. Don't want Disney on your ass. :)

I second this, but money is the all powerful moving object. If he goes this route of doing it for free without pre-order I am sure many of use would still donate to the project if he provided a paypal account to do so. I for one would donate\buy a copy.
Edit: Either way I am glad I mentioned someone building it as it makes me happy to see some kind of movement in making this a reality.

Banana Royale (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,122718.0.html) Redux, anyone?
Maybe our favorite game coder has an update for the terribly neglected original thread, too? :dunno Pretty easy to overlook those sticky threads.

I'm in $25 where do i send it?
I would love to see it just like the original.
Intro where the Bulldozer pushes away Ralph's stump to the Landfill.
The crane's build the Niceland Apts. Nice Landers move in.
Ralph says (I'm Gonna Wreck it !) Climbs the building, Throws a Nicelander across the screen!
Then Trashes the building.
Vertical
39 Levels with a KILL Screen.

Yes i'm just ready for some movement of some kind.
I will gladly donate!
I noticed some guy said on KLOV shelve the idea till Wreck it Ralph comes out on DVD.
To study the 8-bit gameplay. Wreck it Ralph can already be found on the net.
So don't shelve it for that reason.

Got to messing around in GameMaker Studio, not to produce anything fantastic, I just like to learn new things software and the like. Made a little fix-it-felix thingy. Can't tell you how much fun I had messing about with this program.
"Game" is at 480x473
-Controls-
Left & Right Keys - Moves Left and Right 40 pixels
Space Bar - Initiates Hammer Sprite
Shift Key - Resets Felix back to main sprite
Ctrl Key - Special transform into Ralph sprite
:laugh2:
File Download (http://www.speedyshare.com/kpjQD/Repair-It-Randy.exe)
While muckin about I came up with an idea of an off-shoot of Fix-It-Felix called....wait for it....Wreck-It-Ralph. Ingenious I know. A bit premature to talk about it seeing how there isn't even a Felix one available but thought I would throw it out there.
Basically you are Ralph instead of Felix, you get to destroy the hotel. Perhaps in a "Rampage"-esque type of way with Felix following you in a random fashion trying to fix shite and hit you with the hammer......I dunno.
"Sjaak" if you made the Pac-Man game in "GameMaker Studio", then I salute you cause that is one genius program. I think I want to train myself in this, can make android\iOS apps with it as well, love it.
-
Nope, i did the game in C#. I also used the xna framwork for .Net from Microsoft. And i wrote a couple of hlsl shaders for the glowy, blinky and wavy stuff.
-
CoryBee, my AV hates your game. I'll turn it off later, how abouts a video?
-
I have to wait until February before the actual film is released in the UK.
-
CoryBee, my AV hates your game. I'll turn it off later, how abouts a video?
What AV do you have? Unfortunate.....
Edi: The building should be this one from the Movies game. Same one I used for my mini-game lol. Seems to be a few variations in Felix and the Building he fixes.
-
Right, I think there's enough interest, so I'm going to start building a Fix it Felix Jr. Replica Cabinet, starting with the software.
(http://www.xs4all.nl/~hansolo1/wir/image 176.png)
Anyone who wants to support the build is invited to make a contribution here (link removed, please contact me via pm).
The software side of the game will be as close as possible to the 'real' arcade version, lo-res, vertical and will include a kill screen. Contributors will receive regular updates and will also be able to request features.
And please remember that I'm doing this in my spare time. So don't expect the game to be finished in a week!

It really brings a tear to my eye.
Through all the nonsense threads i have read. (The game sux!) (It's not all whole game!) (I saw the movie!)
And posted on, It has finally come to this.
I really feel good now. Progress has been made and will be moving forward.
I hope many of you feel the same.

Hope its a good omen

So I am always into helping a cause with a donation. What exactly is the donation for? A remake proyotype of the game? Anyone concerned about copyright on this? Just curious before i donate.
Happy New Year!

It's a contribution to my Fix It Felix Jr. replica build which will include a replica of the arcade game.
The game will not be released publicly and only for personal use, so copyright should not be a big concern.

Me and Brian have made 4 trips to Disneyland already to record gameplay video, snapshots, log behaviors and proper level structs for the game and sound effects not online. Sound effects were edited and put right in to the game to replace sounds such as the glass breaking sound, sounds when you press start, hi score screen sounds, sounds between player plays etc..
This is extremely close to the arcade as I can get and it's pretty sweet. Even has the level 39 kill screens, and boot garble/romcheck screens just like the arcade.
Probably over 100 additions and changes have been added to make it arcade perfect. There are so many little things they changed from the online version that you really have to look very closely to catch. Everything from the colors, how fast stuff blinks, colors of certain text, fonts, sounds, brick patterns, building graphics, ralph animations, felix animations, window spacing, window styles, glass on window styles, walking behavior, new objects, attract mode sequence and timings, 2 player support with all the proper interlude screens and player turnover screens, high score screen and input behavior, giant bricks that come after level 4, etc..
I've analyzed every aspect of the game from beginning to end in great detail and have replicated it all.
To top it off I added some features that do not interfere with game such as a custom soft dip screen where you can set your lives, max lives, bonus life amount, coinage settings including true free play, high score management, attract mode settings, default reset etc..
Also added an nvram file to store all your high scores and last play stuff, which can be managed from the dip screen thats mocked up like the DK / DKJR soft dip rom upgrade. Scores behavior is accurate as far as roll over and storage.
Also added were some settings that are normally off that you can turn on such as stuff found only online , on iphone, old versions and prototypes of the game, such as alternate bushes styles, lamposts, real voices from ralph and felix for the "Im gonna wreck it" etc.., flowers, shades etc... all optional and off by default.
I'll put up a video next week.
Why in the devil would you spend all that time and research (Going to Disneyland 4 times)
To study the game?
Add--> Dip Switch Menu, Alternate Bushes, Lamp posts and sound effects ETC...
And not have any intention of sharing the game?
Crazy!
Just doesn't sound right??
Makes me even happier i made my donation here.

A combination of really liking the game and a rational fear of Disney bringing a lawsuit that could take years to resolve and probably bankrupt him whether he won it or not. :scared

I can understand that.
But i figure if MICKEY was coming?
He would have been all over these replica cabinets and graphics already.

Disney is more likely to monetize the game than replica cabs or graphics.
This makes shared software a larger possible drain on their income stream.
If cost of shared software > cost of lawyers ==> Lawsuit likely.
Cost of lawyers >cost of unshared software ==> Lawsuit less likely.
Shareholders rightly expect a return on their investment and Mickey's gotta make the dividends worth the capital risk.
Money is a great motivator. How many people would keep going to work without getting paid?

EDIT: As ChadTower correctly points out below there are also intellectual property considerations in play here. This narrowly-focused post only covered the financial aspects.

Fully understood.
But I ask?
Why doesn't Mickey just release the Official Arcade Port himself?
-
I've got no special knowledge on their marketing strategy/research/timing, but "follow the money" is a reasonably good way to determine their likely actions.

Just guessing, but they would have to make a pc friendly version of the game, that runs on all sorts of different hardware/videocards. They would have to create a distribution channel, arrange for support, add some sort of copy protection and last but not least advertise the game.
It would cost tons of money and the potential market is about 7 people that would pay for the game (That's how many people are actually contributing to this project).
-
That makes sense.
I'm just thankful your willing to do a playable version for our cabinets.
Thank you! Sjaak.

If cost of shared software > cost of lawyers ==> Lawsuit likely.
Cost of lawyers >cost of unshared software ==> Lawsuit less likely.
Intellectual property has different rules. Sometimes companies will take a legal costs loss in order to protect IP because if an IP owner knowingly ignores third party use of IP then future users can credibly argue that they forfeited their copyrights/trademarks when they allowed free use by others. It muddies the waters quite a bit when that comes into play. It's the "why sue me but not them" defense and it can be successful depending on context. Some companies will sick lawyers on anything that moves from a pirate to a 3rd grader's science project. Atari was notorious for that. A monster like Disney has their own staff of permanent lawyers that have to be kept busy to justify their salaries.
I wouldn't get too concerned with this guy's game until you've seen evidence. There is just way too much talk going on around FIF to take it all at face value.
-
I imagine the guy over on KLOV will probably give the game to a small circle of people he trusts not to make it available online.

So it's to be an infiltration operation then? Little hope of back-up? Saint to deny all knowledge of actions on our part if captured? Little hope of success? Certain death?!

If anyone gets hold of the game other than him it will end up online. Over and over and over again this has been proven true in the MAME community. If you let something out of your own hands it will be distributed sooner than we want to think possible.

It's also possible that he got a copy of the real game and all this talk about painstakingly making the game is just a cover.
It makes more sense that he wouldn't share it if the person who owned the machine the copy was made from had signed a NDA.
Wookies don't live on Endor. It just doesn't make sense.
I'll chip in for an alternate version called ---fudgesicle--- it Up Fred, where the guy breaks the windows instead of fixing them.

I would buy that but the smarter thing to do in that case would be to keep his mouth closed and just enjoy having it.

Hey! That is just a copy of my idea of a wreck-it-ralph game!!! I should of had you fools sign an NDA.
-
I would pay for that if the end of level sequence was that song from the old Mormon commerical about breaking windows and lying about it.
*Who Broke My Window?* LDS Commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNaHUxi6H-U#)

Ok I don't know why I'm having trouble figuring this out (probably lack of sleep) but how do I donate? I'm definitely in on this.
Just click here (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=FWCV33AXGBNTS).
Donated. Looking forward to it :)

Carlton Banks becoming a man.

Sequel has already been green lit. Disney is going to protect their ip. It's become another cash cow for them.

Kind of what i was thinking.
He has been asked point blank. (Are you releasing it?)
And he seems to avoid the question everytime.

If I was taking on this project I wouldn't charge and I certainly wouldn't broadcast it a bunch if I was giving it away. More likely I would get someone else to host / distribute it for me who was less concerned about the legal implications. A cool project could pretty easily turn into a nightmare when the cease and desist order comes in the mail.

I'm not selling the game or giving it away, because (as you are saying) Disney would be all over that! This is a contribution to the functioning Fix It Felix replica i'm building. There are people contributing money for my time and materials, but also people helping me out with the artwork for the cabinet and music and sound effects.
People that contribute to the build can request features in the game and they receive regular updates on my progress.
-
You're the man Sjaak. I was just referencing the other guy who everyone is bugging about not releasing his stuff. The minute he releases a full on game and is buddied up with the guy releasing full on copies of the artwork there might be some problems. Better to tread lightly. You're in the same position where this project is simply that, a personal project. I'm loving the progress so far and wanting to contribute somehow without doing the wrong thing.
-
You would think it would look bad on Disney's part.
To give video gamers a hard time,
Because they want to create a replica of a video game they love/want.
Seeing how the movie is about a video game.
Bad publicity i would think ?
Especially if a sequel is down the road.

Disney doesn't give a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- (http://www.snopes.com/disney/wdco/daycare.asp) how bad things look. >:D

They have their own news division they can spin the story any way they want.

I can guarantee that he did not get a copy of the real game. He started by decompiling the flash version and used as the basis for his re-build. He's not saying anything about releasing it because he doesn't want people hounding and asking when is it going to be finished.

Understandable, I think he has enough people hounding him for Hyperspin 2.0
-
I am interested. Looks like alot of fun.

sjaak i cant pm on this site as it wont let me for some reason. Possibly not enough post's. Would you please check hyperspin's site and pm me there?

Sjaak
I would like to donate to your project but I am unable to pm you. Would it be possible for you to pm me or send me a link I could make a donation? Thanks

Ok I am in too. I will have a long drive to see a non PCB Donkey Kong machine for the conversion but will try it out or else I'll simply build one like most of you did. Can't wait to get my hands dirty!
