Title: can anyone tell me what game this is?

i picked up this machine on ebay the other day, planning on making it a Donkey Kong again.  just wondering what game this is currently, it is a basic karate game with 4 joysticks, anyone?  Also, anyone know what makes the screen have black bars like that?

It's a version of Karate Champ, if it has 4 Joysticks I'd assume one of the VS versions

kchampvs          Karate Champ (US VS version, set 1)
kchampvs2         Karate Champ (US VS version, set 2)
or
karatevs          Taisen Karate Dou (Japan VS version)

well, that helps.  I found this on coinopspace.com, i also see a photo of the game on KLOV, but it is not listed as its own game.  i think it is a bootleg of karate champ?

Yes that is a bootleg.

I believe your monitor problem is called Jail Bars (going by memory here as I never actually had one that did that). Try a cap kit, it will probably fix it right up (monitor is probably a Sanyo 20EZ).
