I've started looking at the model 2 emulator again as I've never really had good results with it and now I'm trying to set it up on a 15khz only cab I'm really struggling.
Model 2 games run at 496x384@57.49hz (I think?) and as such getting it to run on a 15khz monitor (interlaced obviously) isn't easy. So far I've managed to tweak the modeline using Arcade OSD to the point where it's interlaced and supposedly running at 57.4hz (it's a bit squashed up at the moment but I'll sort that later) but the emulator is still skipping sound samples and the music isn't syncing up. If it really is running at the right refresh surely that shouldn't be happening?
I was wondering if I'm trying to re-invent the wheel here and someone else maybe has already achieved what I want? If not, what can I do to get this looking and sounding right?
Frankly I think I could live with it looking a bit off but the sound skipping is a bit much to deal with.

I let it run at my desktop refresh/resolution and it's working fine (640x480@60hz) as far as I can tell. How do you switch refresh for this emulator anyway?
-
You need to check if it's actually 57.4 Hz (do a speed test with Arcade_OSD). If the refresh is fine, then it's a matter of tweaking the emulator itself. Bear in mind that even Vanilla MAME has difficulties to keep the sound smooth if the refresh is just slightly different to the theorical one.

i always thought house of the dead arcade was 60hz
mame reports it as that also

I think it's a grey area to be honest, it's the general concensus that it's definitely not 60hz but no one can seem to decide if it's 57, 57.4, 56 etc though someone said it's the same as model3 which runs at 57.49 (allegedly) and tested that theory against elsemi's emulator and that at least does run at this refresh.

Ah I forget I'm running an old version of VMM/GM on this cab, thanks I'll check that out :)

How do you switch the refresh rate for the M2 emulator?

Bumping a three year old thread which may answer some of these questions...
I did a bit of investigating on the vertical refresh rate of model 2 games myself. I plugged in my Extron RGB interface to the video signal of one of my Daytona cabinets and got the following result :
I then tried loading the Daytona rom in Groovymame and that detected the vertical refresh rate at 57.524160Hz (Sega Rally Championship displayed the exact same result too). If the Model 2 Emulator is displaying model 2 games at 60Hz, that is over 4% faster than the original arcade hardware, quite a significant difference in my opinion! :(
