Title: Sony PVM purple splotch issue - fixed when tilting monitor?
Post by: soundguy77 on December 06, 2012, 09:42:32 pm
i acquired a fairly new sony pvm-14m2u and recently noticed a purple splotch in the upper right corner.  i was told to use a deguass tool, and this does fix it but only when the tool is on.  when i turn the tool off the purple splotch reappears exactly in the same spot, no matter how much i degauss it.

the interesting part is when i tilt/tip the monitor back so it's facing up slightly, the picture clears up perfectly.  no purple or anything.  same with tipping it to the right.  however, when it's sitting normally or tilted to the left, the purple comes back.  this is why i believe something internal is leaning or tipping at a weird angle, causing the purple area.

have any ideas how to fix this?

thanks so much for the help.

edit: i seemed to have fixed it with a normal fridge magnet.  i had this extra strong, thick magnet and it seemed to fix it.  strange.  i'll update the thread if something changes.

lol

I used to sit a magnetic tipped screwdriver onto the edge of one of my little PVM's because of a similar issue when I rotated it to play vert games.

A couple things to do:

-make sure there are no speakers or other magnetic sources around your monitor.

-try moving it to a different part of the room

Your monitor might have been stored on its side or back for a long time and it has developed this coloring.  Over time it should wear off.

when i bought my wega i set it on the floor next to a guitar case, not realizing that the pickups were sitting right to the side of it. its had a purple spot since although it didnt when i bought it.

i just need to buy a degaussing coil.

btw, make sure you have nothing magnetic around, it can be something you wouldnt think of, like a guitar.

I have automotive screwdrivers and such that are magnetic on purpouse, and i have to be careful not to mix them up with my electronics tools.

De-guass, yo. That unit should have a button for it.
