Title: EmuChrist Cab Finished!
Post by: Raider on October 30, 2003, 09:07:51 pm
(http://members.cox.net/cronos262/cabfinishedsmall.jpg)

Couple things of note... I had the sideart done through a custom auto graphics shop... Vinyl with adhesive back and came out damn nice for $75! Might be an avenue worth investigating.

For actlab gun holsters I bought 2x4 strap mounts from Home Depot for $1.39 a piece. Couple dips in latex and viola! They fit the guns perferct! Hope that helps some out for a decent cheap holster idea!

Might add some further accent graphics to the cp but dunno at this point... Don't want to go overkill.

Thanks to you all for making this such an informative site!

very nice--solid theme throughout--but dude--two lightguns and you haven't shared how they work together?  I for one would really like some reviews on that part of it!  Nice work!

lol! Ask and you shall recieve! Just so happens I wrote up a personal compat list on another site... I'll copy and paste it here for you and anyone elses reference....

I haven't seen one of these yet so figuered since I just went through setting up all these games... That I would post a compatability list. Please do note that people have different results because of their setups when attempting to use two daisychained Act Labs PC USB Guns.... Therefore do keep in mind your results could be totally different than mine.

Only games that feature multi player gun support are included in this list. My setup is a 27" VGA Vision Pro Monitor running at 800x600 with MAME32Analog+ 69.1 (Note later build). Commandline options added in each games ini. file are...

Lightgun
Switchablemice 1
Lightgun2b 1

Guns are daisychained - VGA out to gun 1, to gun 2, to monitor.

IF using Analog + MAME (Which is most likely the case if your using PC guns).... You will have to use "mouse controls" from the "tab menu" to set which mouse number is each gun, first use the regular game control mapper to set the buttons to see what mouse number is each gun. You will probably have to go back and remap these keys afterwards. In fact you may have to do so several times just for the game to recogzine the button! So if it don't shoot.. Keep remapping till it does! Also some games would have crap calibration but i knew the guns and buttons were mapped right... Simply exiting and reloading seemed to fix the prob.

Now onto the list:

Alien 3 - Good.

Area51/MaxForce - Good but had to use in game calibration repeatedly till I got a good accuracy on both guns. Off screen and secondary button reload both working!

Bang - Good

Beast busters - unplayable due to major accuracy problems

Catch 22 - Untested (2player?)

Dragon Gun - Good

Golly Ghost - Unplayable because of poor calibration.

GunBuster - Good

Gun Bullet - Untested (2player?)

Jurrassic park - Playable but accuracy off more than an inch.

Lethal Enforcers 2 - Good

Locked & Loaded - Untested (2player?)

Lucky & Wild - All ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- up! Unplayable.

Mechanized Attack - Good

One Shot one Kill - Good

Operation Bear - Untested

Operation Thunder - Good

Police Trainer - Good

Revolution X - Good. Turned off 'gun 3' from dips and set calibration for all guns by  having sysmouse as the control for both guns, and set values with that (Trackball) to 00,128,255. Then switched gubns back from mouse controls, mapped buttons, escape then reload... Viola!

Sharpshooters - good

Space Gun - good. Think I had to do a similar in game calibration as with Terminator 2 and Revolution X but can't remember!

Steel Gunner 2 - Unplayable due to severe accuracy problems.

Target Hits - Untested (Dual gun game?)

Termnator 2 - Good. Set calibration for all guns by  having sysmouse as the control for both guns, and set values with that (Trackball) to 00,128,255. Then switched gubns back from mouse controls, mapped buttons, escape then reload... Viola!

Tickee Tickats - Good

Underfire - Good, but reload off screen does not work (Older MAME build perhaps?)

Zero Point - Good

Zombie Raid - Playbale Sort of! Took with a lot of going back and forth with in game and gun calibrations. managed to get an accuracy within 2 inches but some shots still go wild. Works good with one gun, lightgun2b and multiplemice options off. Maybe some more tinkering will get this sorted better. Offscreen and secondary button reload working.

Sweet cabinet.  Love the sideart and whole concept.  Very tight and you are right not to want to make it too busy.  Gun holsters are very creative as well.

What's with the "Christ"?  I'm not religious, nor sensitive, but, isn't that kind of extreme?

What's the significance?  Meh, mines named MAME.

I can't get one gun to work, much less two.  Congrats on that.

1hookedpsacecadet - Thanks! Likewise I'm curious to see how your rotating panel idea comes out! Very original idea on how to tackle one there!

JackTucky - I asked around what I should name the cab at EmuChrist.org. Was a site I founded with two others way back but have since relinquished. Anyways a lot of people said name it EmuChrist.... Since I play other things besides MAME on it I thought hmmmm the Christ of emulation? Okay it works... Plus this guy had done up that real nice logo I used as the marquee. I have another marquee in mind I might do up, just to switch back and forth when i so desire.

Ah, I never heard of that site before.  Nice job.

Your webpage could do with some sprucing up and organization, but that's bar none one of the best projects I've seen. Solid and tight are good words to use.

What humors me is that the control panel is so subtle looking for a megapanel, yet one so encompassing and properly thought out. Are you going to add anything else to it? Is it swappable? It looks like you have most gaming bases covered with that, but maybe a yoke or wheels?

Other than that I'd agree not to overdo the art. Maybe an instruction card on the bezel at the bottom there or a little graphic around the trackball.  Little accents as you mentioned. Doesn't need anything more than that!

lol! yeah I will update that webpage but I'm not going to slave trying to make some award winning look of a site. I was busy enough trying to finish the cab.

Thanks! I'm really pleased with that cp layout. I will most likely add in 2 more 3" illuminated trackballs severl months down the line, but besides those, that's it. Swappable? Sort of. I have L brackets attached snugly in the four corners holding it in place snug. The panel is heavy and tight fitting enough that I didn't attach it to the cp box. Basically you can pull it out and off, disconnect the usb jacks and the keyboard plugs from the ipac, and swap a new one in pretty easy.

I like the idea for bezel instructions. In fact I was considering photoshopping up one that looks like the Satan's Hollow style.

Hey Raider, any chance you could take some additional pics of that beast - especially of the gun holsters?

Great job, BTW!

Hey Sasquatch.... THere's a number of additional pics at the project website, which needs to be updated badly. Gimmie a couple days to post a piccie here of the gun holsters... In the meantime tell me if there's anything else you want a pic of and I'll be sure to take 'em and post those as well.

Actually, yeah, there is!  How do you have the guns wired through the cab?  It looks like they're out the back of the control panel?  I'm looking for a way to elegantly mount the wiring for the guns (and I'd REALLY like for it to be non-premanent).  Thanks!

Sorry it took so long! Problems with my dig cam!

Anyways here's three pics that should give you a good idea of what I did. Again these are 2x4 strap mounts purchased from home depot for $1.39 a piece.... then painted black. Hope that helps...
