Very cool. Will be watching this closely. I have a similar build in mind for my next project
(that is if and when I finish my cocktail arcade ???)
Is that the normal angle of the screen?
-
I'm sure this will be another great build. I'll be following this.
-
.
-
Maybe you could incorporate a tilting mechanism in the cab to adjust the viewing angle.
-
This hobby is like a drug. They always come back for more! ;D
This looks very interesting.. will be following this one for sure.
-
That's a tiny cab. Will follow your process with great interest.
-
That is tiny! Following.
Do you think it will be awkward to use?

Looks to me like you know what you are doing! Looks good.

Ghetto Bendy Time... LOL!!
I already have most of the pieces to build my cabinet (controls, 29' arcade monitor, tube, jpac, pc, software, etc), for at least two years, but I never started, 'cause I was looking for a metal control panel. Thanks to you, now I know how I will do it. What is the metal that you used and what is its thickness?
Thanks.
-
Well done LT :applaud:
How thick is that metal sheet? Was thinking a metal CP for my future lowboy project too.
Ghetto works just as good sometimes. ;)

That control panel looks sweet.

That control panel looks sweet.
I second that :applaud:

I second that :applaud:
I third that!!
Adding metal is a whole new challenge. bending this stuff without the right tools is tricky to say the least and you done an awesome job..
Can i ask how you are going to secure this to the cabinet?
-
.
-
.

I don't know if it's just me but a curve from the marquee to the CP would make it look more"lowboyish". To me anyway.
Must add :applaud:
-
:applaud:
Just like that you mounted the monitor huh :hissy:
You sir are my hero.
-
personally i love it. I have been eye-balling some of the lowboy projects here lately. I wish i had the tools and skills to make one just like this.
Great job!

Thank you.
The minimum you need to start building stuff is a sturdy tape measure, some kind of metal yard stick(you need good straight lines), a drill, a few clamps and a jigsaw. Aside from using a drill press for the metal control panel, those are the things I used. Nothing too crazy.
you forgot to mention it requires a fair amount of wood working skill. ;D
-
.
-
This is looking great Louis! I agree with others about that CP.
You have got to send some of whatever it is that gives you the speed to do these projects.
I mean here it is taking me going on over a year and you crank out a cab in a couple of weeks.
:banghead:

looking good!, and antimatter is a great name - throws up some cool results if you search google images.
Oh and get some more sleep :) .
-
This got My attention.
Great work so far dude!
-
Very nice work and really great use of clamps and wood to make a brake press to bend your CP.

Excellent cab. Metal CP looks great!
Sooo much green, maybe go with a darker green. My only input really.
-
Ugh... So yeah, cabinet artwork is definitely one of my weak points. I think I'm getting a little better but not much. It's really difficult for me to not over complicate it to the point where it looks like crap. Which of these, if any, looks ok to you guys? My last resort is just a black cabinet, which doesn't look bad at all but I don't really want to go that route. Oh and I'm trying to break my hatred for painting with this cabinet so no vinyl prints this time. Choosing to paint helps with keeping it simple.
Here's what I've got so far:
#1 Small logo with green and black stripe
(http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss219/Louis_Tully/AntimatterArt1.jpg)
#2 Small logo with only green stripe
(http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss219/Louis_Tully/AntimatterArt2.jpg)
#3 Large logo with green and black stripe
(http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss219/Louis_Tully/AntimatterArt3.jpg)
#4 Large logo with only green stripe
(http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss219/Louis_Tully/AntimatterArt4.jpg)
Any thoughts?
Thanks
I like the idea of number one with some blurring on the green?.
-
Rather than solid white, why not something dim and industrial, like the front of a Star Wars cabinet?
-
IMHO, of the examples posted, I like #2.
-
.
-
The gray is a lot better than the white. Not sure about the marqee - it is a little too cartoonish but it's important to go with what you like. Wish I could offer some better suggestions .....

I personally like the cartoony but i think it needs more. im not sure what but more. maybe a mad scientist or something???

If you want to go a little Star Trek (http://startrekfreedom.com/wiki/index.php/Antimatter_Containment), perhaps a warning that if the magnetic containment field strength goes below 15%, the field will collapse, destroying the cab.

Your Lowboy is amazing...The style is pure the cuts are agressives and the cp is crazy...
You want to paint your cab...That idea is really good. what about a pencil in a banksy style? this draw is a bit antimatter :dunno
why dont you put the logo at the top of the cab and smaller not in central stage.
And a astronom like this should be easy to paint..Some ideas for the marquee too..
Ilove the antimatter is written on the draw with the 2 guys with glasses on the side
Hope it helps..good luck

I really like the design of your lowboy.
You could get a better fit with the bezel if you decase the monitor though.

That's looks fantastic. I'm sure they look even better in person. Nicely done.
And how much you curling back there? Those 50lbs each :notworthy:
Merry X-mas to you and your family.
Enjoy!

Is that a round base on there? I love it if it is!

Looks great. :applaud:
The only thing you might want to consider is black carriage bolts to go with the black dust washers, black Atari button cones, and black button bodies.

You can buy black powder coated aluminum similar to this (http://www.shapirosupply.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4981) for the kick plate.
Should be pretty durable.

Looking good Louis! Im debating whether or not to add a kick plate to A Little Rage.
-
.
-
.
-
Dad blammit Louis, yet another idea I will have to steal from you for a future build! (Great work on the leds, and I like the way you use common material for your ideas.)
And dont kick me, cause I aint the one who thought of it, but I still think the coin buttons in the dual switch plate was a good idea. Just need to figure out a way to hide the switch holes and paint it black of course.

One of my current builds uses a variation of this.
Use a stainless steel cover plate like this (http://www.pimfg.com/Product-Detail/P-C-1).
Once the center hole(s) are drilled/nibbled/filed to the right size, use a metal cutoff wheel on a table saw to trim the outer curved portions leaving the flat center portion with countersunk screw holes.
Fodors fun fact: The linked version (F-type/TV cable plate) only needs to be rounded out to perfectly fit the bat-handle Grayhill 04 mini-joystick -- will be posting more on that soon.

Like the build, what you really need is some texure on that side though to make it look more industrial, http://www.filterforge.com/filters/4497.html (http://www.filterforge.com/filters/4497.html) I know it looks a bit green, but this is the same type of texuring they use on CGI starship models for the Feds...

That thing looks sweet!
Looking forward to the video with the marquee installed.
Great job as always LT
-
Sweet!!
Those coin buttons are bright arent they?
I plan to dim mine a bit with the led wiz (Its going to be interesting working with that led wiz, I can already see some problems with emuls besides mame, definitely need to study up on it more. Having to put off finishing A Little Rage may have turned out to be a blessing.)
Anyway, maybe its the camera making them look so bright, but I have noticed mine being pretty bright at 5 Volts.
Anyway, this is a great build.
Got to try Kinkos for my marquee, (Tired of splicing two or three images together). Can they print on the transparent copy paper?

Looking good man. I like the design and the layout. Everything fits together pretty well.

That's pretty awesome looking texture. That would definitely make the cabinet look 10x better. If I could actually paint worth a damn, I'd do it.
Welllll..... That's a texture for a CGI model... you would need something that actually created a difference in the surface height to make it more realistic, say about the thickness of paper or cardboard from a cereal box, and build up some serious greebling around the antimatter sigil, plus using the right paints can help, http://www.humbrol.com/paints/paints-by-finish/metalcote-colours/ac5025-27003-polished-steel-14ml-metalcote-enamel-tinlet/ (http://www.humbrol.com/paints/paints-by-finish/metalcote-colours/ac5025-27003-polished-steel-14ml-metalcote-enamel-tinlet/) this paint polishes to give a metal finish, I know it looks good on a smal model, how it will look on a larger area IDK...
-
.
-
.
-
Now that, if done correctly, would be top shelf badass.
Yep, I'd look around some 3D model sites for ideas for your greebles, and maybe talk to a few model makers, I have an idea of how I would do it, if you want?

Looking real good. Did you get the marquee printed at Kinkos?
-
My kid's just gonna bang his big wheel into it and scrape his toys all over it, like all the other cabs in his reach.
The infinite joy of having children... lol
-
I like it! :applaud:
Those joysticks look pretty short for being in a metal CP.

So is that your second lowboy?.

Those sound effects are BOSS!

Did i miss the pc specs? Didn't see a motherboard anywhere or is it running in plutonium ; )

Great work LT!
I liked that you used your left hand as a notepad. :)

The LEDs are just temp slopped together to make sure it works.
You might want to get a small 400 point breadboard and jumpers like this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RXKWDQ/) set -- easier than soldering to test circuits.

Great work Louis!!
Those leds are bright. But they turned out good.
Im willing to bet this wont be your last arcade project LOL.
I am a Big Bang Theory fan too.
-
Nice work! Personally, I probably would have done with a 1/2" wood spacer though underneath the joysticks, not the 3/4" that you used. The joysticks seem a bit "too" short.
But still a great build nonetheless!

Yeah, I realized it was old when I first saw it. I resurrected it due to this posting, where it was mentioned: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,142478.msg1476095.html#msg1476095 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,142478.msg1476095.html#msg1476095)
