Hey everyone. I have a MAME cab that's been out of commission for a while and I'm finally ready to revive it.
One thing that I've always wanted to add are ports for console controllers. I played a lot of console games on the cab, and while it was fun to use arcade controls to play them, certain games were certainly more playable with their original controllers.
I know there are several adapters available, but they all seem to have their caveats. Universal adapters (N64, SNES, and PSX in one) typically have just one of each type of port. Console specific adapters just have 1 or 2 (fine for SNES, not cool for N64). Of course, I could just buy a boatload of adapters and plug them into a USB hub, but that brings me to my next point...
On the software side of things, I remember it was a pain in the butt to keep swapping controllers as I had to remap the keys each time. Ideally, I'd like to have things setup to where I could remap buttons for specific programs (I think Gravis Xperience did this..?). Now I could be wrong here, but I would imagine that some adapters are easier to configure than others in this regard.
Long story short, I would like to add 2 NES, 2 SNES, 4 N64, 2 Atari/Genesis, and 2 PSX controller ports to my cab, in addition to my existing arcade controls (using GP32 Wiz) and wireless Xbox 360 controllers, and have them be largely interchangeable. Any suggestions on the best way to go about this?

Not sure how many keys you have mapped via keyboard through your encoders but I use "Joytokey" to map the usb controllers I use. "Joytokey" works off of the unique key of the controller so it wont get mixed up with your other ones. I put N64 and PS2 controller ports on a MAME conversion once and this worked beautifully, 4 console controllers and a two Arcade controller setup. Good luck on adding so many controller ports, it is something I would like to do sometime as well.
