Title: power on cabinet?

I have had my cabinet up and running for a few months now, but there is one little annoyance. Whenever I want to turn the power on to the cabinet, I have to pull it away from the wall, reach in, and hit the power button  on the computer since it is ATX. (Luckily its on casters so its not a huge deal)
But does anyone have any better ideas to get around this?
I know I can put a coin door or normal door on the front of the cabinet and reach in that way, but I dont want to at the moment.
I know I can do a "wake-on-lan", but I am not always wired into the rest of my network with the cabinet.

What I am looking for is a wiring hack or a way to make an ATX power supply work more like the old AT ones where you could just unplug and plug it back in to get the power back on.

Hey saintjo..

I know somewhat about this topic...  (for the uninformed) if you computer has a on switch that you just kinda hit real quick and it turns on then u can install a momentary switch (available from happs, etc...  search: momentary switch) that will allow you to rewire the switch to a button on the front of your cabinent.  Hope it helps...

Check the BIOS of your computer, and it might have an option that's something like "State after power loss" and set it to "Turn on the computer" :)

I'm sure you're bios will be different than those exact phrases, most newer bios have an option to turn the computer on after a power loss.

yes, on mine it's called "always on"

Also, since you have an ATX, your power switch IS momentary, so you can use any pushbutton (including the kind of buttons you have on your control panel) to turn the computer on. Your local radio shack or equivalent should have pushbuttons too if you don't have a spare. Just wire it in parallel with the existing switch.

or clip and tie the green and black wires from power supply to motherboard together

I forget whose cab gave me this idea (it wasn't mine) but putting a black pushbutton on the top of the cabinet and attaching it to the power-switch pins on your motherboard does the trick pretty nicely.

If you put a power-on pushbutton anywhere else on the cab, then people pushing it accidentally or cuz they don't know what it is shuts down the pc or spits you out of mame.

Also check if your mobo has any other poweron options, the computor in my cab can power on on almost anything from mouse presses to a keycombination on the keyboard, dony use it though since the comp is always on ;)
