Actually my first mame build ever. I have been lurking on the board for a while in this is an amazing resource! Here is where I am at. I am basing this off of the plans at: http://bartoparcade.katorlegaz.com/ (http://bartoparcade.katorlegaz.com/)
The monitor is a 20" LCD and this will be a 2 player, 5 button setup. The cab will be filled and painted once I have the top and back all connected. Not sure about graphics yet. The monitor is sitting on plywood in the picture so I could get the proper height to measure the monitor support piece. More pics to follow as the work progress later this week. Where do people buy their piano hinges for the back door? I found one at Home Depot, but it was about 6 feet long and around $8. I only need an 18" piece.
The computer is an AMD 2700+, 2.16ghz with 2gb ram. Will these specs run any of the VPinMame tables? If not, then I won't be adding flipper buttons.

How about just cutting this 30" one (http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202034144/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=piano+hinge#.UKvGwlJ0JJE) in half?

You might need to stick to lower resolution and/or older tables to make them run at full speed.
There are lots of VP8 4:3 tables on VPForums.org (http://VPForums.org) that should run just fine.

Scott, thanks for the link. I'll have to look for that one next time I am at THD.
Looks like I'll add some flipper buttons then. Thank you for the comments! I guess I have been spoiled with running VP9.

Good luck for your bartop. Why did you use plywood ? It is plywood, or am I mistaken ?
-
@Eldritch1969
I used plywood because that is what I had lying around. I will be filling in holes and what not before painting. It seems most people here use MDF though.

I only mentioned VP8 so you'd set your expectations low rather than trying to load a newer high-res table and wonder why it stutters during a 6-ball multiball.
Your favorite tables may run just fine in VP9. :dunno
If you want to be sure, load and test play the ones you really want/can't live without before you drill your flipper button holes.

I hope you have good ventilation... those old XP/MP chips run HOOOOOTTTT!
-
I'll have one exhaust fan for ventilation at the top of the cab along with some holes at the back of the cab below the hinged door for air to flow in. Do I need to have more fans than this?
Thank you for your patience.
-
A good fan at the top and holes at the bottom should be fine. At the worst you could add some small fans to go with the holes at the bottom. I have 1 fan at the bottom and one midway up on mine and it stays lovely and cool in there.
No Street fighter lovers in the house? 5 button layout seems a bit odd to me unless layed out MK Style. You have the room for the 6th button, any particular reason for leaving it out.
-
good point...i better add a 6th button ;D

Finally...
2 player bartop w/ 20" LCD. Not perfect, but I like it!

I always search the local CL ads to see if anything I can't live without shows up and came across this one

Yes, that is my ad.

So, can you live without it? :D
-
I can live without it, was just cool to see someone who lives on the other side of the hill (literally) on here. He's about a 20 minute drive if in Dublin/Pleasanton area.
