Title: Computer Crash on Mame Startup
Post by: Xtrato on November 19, 2012, 12:18:02 pm
I have managed to get my mame pc working with power-strip and the old TV so the resolution and refresh rate etc are looking perfectly. I'm using a VGA to SCART cable for the connection. Im hving trouble however. When MAME starts the computer shuts down, and when i say shuts down i don't mean gracefully. Is there a reason as to why this would happen. I have tried with two separate computers and the same thing happens. Is it a problem with the graphics card or a problem with the Mame resolution or something?

Thanks in advance for your help

MAME will do this if you have a nVidia 6xxx card, Windows XP 32-bit and drivers newer than about 4 years old.

It appears to be a nVidia bug, MAME isn't really doing anything too unusual but blows up, as you say, in a very non-graceful way on a draw call to the nVidia drivers.

use (much) older drivers.

Hi,

I'm guessing you have a nVidia card with the latest drivers.  If so just revert to version 258.96.

see the following thread for more info

Same thing happened to me and installing nVidia drivers 258.96 solved everything.
