Title: [Solved] Donkey Kong not working in Maximus Arcade?
Post by: DeLuSioNal29 on November 14, 2012, 11:05:27 pm
Hi all,

I'm having a strange issue with Donkey Kong (dkong.zip US SET 1) and I'm wondering if anyone can help.  For some odd reason, I cannot run Donkey Kong from within Maximus Arcade.  It will start to load the game when I press the button, but then goes to black and nothing.

-  Windows XP Pro
-  Instant Sheller is on to hide Windows
-  I'm running Mame32 .143
-  Maximus Arcade 2.10 Final
-  It works within Maximus if I use the original Mame.exe from .143 download.
-  It does not work within Maximus if I use the hi score and no nag version of mame.exe.

Now here's the kicker... It works outside of Maximus Arcade if I run mame.exe and type in dkong and run it.  Weird.

I tried the following to rectify it to no avail:
-  Changed the directory path in the setting from short to long (no effect)
-  Cleared the nvram folder in the mame directory (no effect)
-  Cleared the cache folder in the Maximus directory (no effect)
-  Rescanned the ROMS (no effect)
-  I tried adding dkong0.zip (US Set2) and running that.  Same deal.

Any ideas?  My last resort is to image the drive as a backup and then remove Instant Sheller to see if that is what's causing the issue.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

After some trial and error I finally solved the issue.  It turns out that newer versions of MAME do not like the extra Maximus Arcade default commands in the command line box (in preferences).   :banghead:

The default is:
%file -skip_gameinfo -nowindow

To solve it I removed -skip_gameinfo -nowindow from the command line and Voila, the game loaded!  I also noticed my games loaded a bit faster when you press a button to load the game from the menu.  I'm guessing the cause was the invalid syntax caused by Maximus and MAME.

I'll keep this up for others to learn from.   :applaud:
